  • I'm not super attentive to the politics of steve-o, but the bits I have seen about him (outside the jackass world), are pretty damn cool.

he did a "hot ones" interview and I think he talked about the dog he has and how they met and it was pretty darn adorable, from what I remember.

  • while I sorta doubt you did the "math on the physics", my bigger worry is referring to .30-06 as 30.06, as one of those doesn't exist, as far as I'm aware.

but stating, factually, that there is "zero chance" of the bullet embedding in the collarbone, is pretty irresponsible. there are a multitude of other things that need to be accounted for in ballistics analysis, which even then can be misinterpreted.

  • like I recognize there aren't a huge number of metrics you could reliably use for "interest" in a topic.

but Google search trends seems pretty low on the credibility hierarchy

  • I wouldn't say wounding a creep 20 years before they sent this particular email would be "brought to justice".

  • that spinner ring interests me immensely. unfortunately, I do not have any reason to have one

  • because all of it melted. that's why doesn't have anything

  • I'm not sure I'd be too keen on letting a parent infect their (innocent) children. I recognize he's a stupid ass, but that doesn't mean he should maim or kill his children with his stupid ass

  • yeah it's crazy, like where I am it can be like 60-70 during the day, but then drop 30-40 degrees when the sun goes down and usually doesn't warm back up until the next day

  • But every counter-argument to the concerns above rests on the same foundation: technically, users can leave. Technically, you can self-host. Technically, you can run your own relay. The capability exists at every layer. But people don't do these things. They never have with any protocol. Not email, not RSS, not XMPP. The default wins. Always.

except those explicit examples showing that people do exactly those things?

    Least Favorite: Also McDonald's

  • I like the idea of documenting what I'm doing all that, but I have a hard time rationalizing what should actually be recorded.

like if I'm debugging something, and I'm putting silly print statements to quickly troubleshoot, should I document that?

there are certainly times where it makes sense to have a record, but there seems to be many more instances of not needing it at all, which then makes you see recording it as a silly formality, which then kills any motivation to continue recording.

  • that pupil dilation is bonkers tho

  • the likelyhood of talking about ESL (an initialization of English words to begin with) wouldnt generally happen where English is non-native, though. you don't have two Germans asking if the other speaks English as a second language

  • notably not used is where English is not a native language

I mean, not to be blunt, but duh?

it would only really make sense to even talk about English as a second language if the general population does speak it as a native language. in the US people arent ever going to say something like french as a second language, because there's no need for the distinction

  • the bit that I always am happy to know is that through his entire show, he never appeared to be outwardly religious.

he said be kind, because it's good to do, not because god said.

he said love one another, because it's wonderful to be loved back, not because it was in some book.

that he was able to preach without the stigma of religion gave the enormous reach across cultures that his program had.

  • seems like you sorta went off the headline and not the content as the entire article talks about emotional health and regulation.

obviously lead is not an advantageous difference, but it's also disingenuous to imply it's the difference in generations.

  • calling it a body shelf really hits different tho
