4 countries in SA vs 27 in Europe. The point being, many people think this deal is with the whole SA.
Interestingly EU deals with Chile and Colombia were approved without any difficulty.
I do believe the fact people are unfamiliar with Mercosur as an organization and often imagine it bigger than it is made it easier to increase the opposition. Shouting "no trade with Brazil" sounds more aggressive and xenophobic than shouting "stop Mercosur".
This deal is most likely killed at this point, Mercosur won't wait 25 more years. Mercosur clearly gave preference to the EU, but patience has limits. They'll now sign deals instead with China and India, without any of those safeguards that this deal had. Europe is not the center of the world. For a party supposedly worried with climate change they have an incredibly provintial and eurocentric view of the planet.
Sorry for not wasting too much time answering someone with ready insults and the usual cassette, but I find it boring... I'm a lefty with an own mind, I'm not impressed by your microwaves notes, nor insults. And yes, PCP is the main Russian puppet in Portugal, CH is only in recruitment phase still.
It's simple actually. "Money donations" are not "freedom of expression" like in the US, there are very limited amounts that individuals may donate to political parties, anything above is corruption. This is the general rule across Europe. You don't want your democracy for sale, you don't allow it to be bought.
Are you talking about the same green party? Because the only party green in its name is PEV "Os Verdes" the eternal coalition partner of PCP, the communist party.
The far left did vote with them, some parties on the far left also do present themselves as greens, like the Portuguese green party (although they don't have MEPs anymore).
But when the supposed moderate Greens side with Russian puppets on the far-left and far-right to sabotage a deal with Global South countries, I guess we can't call them moderate any longer... Aggressively defending protectionism to European farmers and wasting an opportunity to improve the environmental standards in South American farming industry. This at a moment when Europe desperately needs to strengthen relations with middle powers like itself. This is extremist behavior.
via colonial legacy institutions and the so called international ruled based order which was designed to maintain Western hegemony.
I don't think that was the main motivation for the current international rules order, but then you should be happy to know that Putin and Trump are breaking them all and trying to bring good old colonialism back.
Also interestingly the far left and the greens today at the European Parliament aligned themselves with the far right (German AfD etc) to sabotage the deal with Mercosur, a deal that would allow Global South countries to trade on an equal stand with Europe. So, sorry for not taking very seriously the people always talking about European colonization, it often just hides eurocentrism and unresolved superiority complexes... When it's time for action they don't hesitate to find lame excuses to join forces with racist nationalists that want a Europe Fortress.
European colonization of Africa failed and it's over. Arab colonization succeed. History is written by winners, so people forget the Arabs were colonizers before the Europeans.. funny ah?
Except for France and Russia, no European country has any relevant role in Africa these days. China has a huge one. China a "Global South" country, so a victim? Effectively colonizing islands left and right in the Asian seas..
I'm not denying history, but currently a bit more worried with the present. This obsession with XIX century colonization when there's old style colonization happening right now, from Ukraine to Armenia, South Sudan, Philippines.. and then new economical colonization all over Africa by China.. .
Time to drop the eurocentrism, we're not the center of the world anymore and since a long time.
Oh sorry, I forgot Sweden is in Africa. Or that referring to an app as European implies that Europe is a country. Luckily there are still people like you to educate us all /s
True. I'd be up for that, but honestly more for a real social network for friends and family, like Facebook once was, than for a debate forum like Twitter. That demand could maybe endure that it would remain a friends only network..
If you think colonization is a European exclusive you're wasting your time with me. Europe is a shadow of its past. China is the new colonizing force.
I'm honestly fed up of that anti-European and simultaneously insanely eurocentric perspective. The struggle for power is nothing new nor racially exclusive. Democracy and rule of law are the relatively rare concepts, of which Europe has been among the best examples for the past decades.
This narrative of guilty peoples, special races is honestly sickening and much closer to the far right views than to the universal values we should seek.
