For example, a typical medium sized family car will create around 24 tonnes of CO2 during
its life cycle, while an electric vehicle (EV) will produce around 18 tonnes over its life. For a
battery EV, 46% of its total carbon footprint is generated at the factory.
So EVs are a small improvement. Since I enjoy older cars and my privacy a lot more, I'm gonna keep enjoying them and not let manafacturers ram EVs down my throat, especially when a lot of them are hideous SUVs.
Why is allowing vehicles running on alternative fuels that have 0 emmissions a bad thing? Why are we all hell bent on pursuing EVs, inisisting that's the solution and just ignoring all their downsides?
Badly. And I don't look at news at all. I'm constantly back and forth ignoring it and wanting to do something. On one hand it's a war on the other side if the world, it doesn't directly impact me. On the other my government are actively involved and it's 2025, everyone is connected. I think maybe I can just donate, but that's a massive rabbit hole because apparently aid isn't getting through, and all the usual questions about charities and where my money is going. Then I think I'll give directly to families through GoFundMe or something, then I think how do I know they're real and not rich con artists sat in America or somewhere. Then I get overwhelmed and ignore it all. Then my goverment does something stupid again and the cycle begins again.
If you're genuinely interested then fair enough. Just saying it's not the only option, as a lot of people seem to think these days, and for personal projects I think it's bonkers.
I've had a Polar Pace Pro for 2 years now, pretty happy with it in general though it does have a few minor flaws. In relation to what you're after:
It's fairly robust, I've managed to scratch the screen a little recently, but I have whacked it a fair few times.
Heart rate is pretty accurate, though sometimes it doesn't detect properly during a workout and shows 80odd when I know that's not true. Needs a twist or tightening then shows correctly, but can be annoying.
Sleep analysis is good. It's helped me realise how much even 1 drink hinders sleep. HRV, heart rate, breathing rate etc.
I charge about once a week with 3/4 workouts.
No drinking tracker that I'm aware of, but you could set alarms up.
Pedometer seems good, though doesn't cancel during a workout, so after a cycle it tells me I've done 20k steps.
I had a Garmin before too and I'm happy with the switch.
I genuinely can't figure this out. I found an iPhone label with 1000x, which seems obvious. So what the hell is XY00? Everything else in the image is an example value.
Edit: right reading through this thread it seems its 100x the value, so XY represents a number, e.g. 15, then it would be 1500 cycles. The iPhone label I found must be from an earlier test or something. I like the rest but this seems unclear.
That seems debatable, and in my cynical mind probably influenced by manafacturers.
I got so bored of throwing out ones when the battery had gone. My dentist didn't have any complaints last time I went, but guess we'll see in a few years if it was the right decision!
Some great advice here, probably repeating others a bit but stuff that works for me:
to do lists for each day / physically writing stuff down
Generally work in 4 blocks (~60 - 90 mins each), 2 in the morning with a break in between then the same in the afternoon after a decent lunch break. (Afternoons are always less productive mind)
Seperate work/home laptops. Only work stuff happens on work laptop.
if I find I'm not being productive I just leave my desk for 5 mins then come back and try again.
lots of walks
For YouTube stuff I'd recommend an alternative front end like freetube. Much less in your face with throwing vids at you, plus no ads!
I find this a bit misleasing, especially when (in the uk) electricity is only ~50% renewables apparently.
