Hi! I'm blorps. I'm a data analysis major. If I don't respond to you, it's because I forgot! ( -_-" )

  • Small write-up of the last 20 mins of the video: (because I need to go do laundry lol)

If you must converse with a fascist:

Principle 1: Stay on message. Maintain control of the conversation. State plainly what is at stake, what they are doing, and don't allow them to change the subject. "What you are doing/saying is hurting people. Stop being an asshole."

Principle 2: If you're explaining, you're losing. Just. Call. Bullshit. Make them explain why it's not.

Principle 3: Fascists by definition are hateful losers. Do not think otherwise. Do not allow themselves to hide or run away or change the subject. Call them hateful. Call them losers. Call them weird. Publicly.

    edit: forgor a word

  • Extra good news: "Just in! A second huge ruling for transgender people! The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals just DENIED the government's motion for a stay in the trans military ban case. The government CANNOT enforce it's ban on transgender people in the military still. BIG day for pro-transgender rulings. "

  • It's rough and tough out here. If I knew I was going to be illegal as a kid I would've been so hyped for what crimes I did, but apparently just existing is one ahaha.

  • Based on mention:

    • Wisconsin: Milwaukee, Madison
    • Missouri: Kansas City, St. Louis
    • Ohio: Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati
    • Kentucky: Louisville
    • Arizona: Tuscon, Phoenix
    • Nevada: Las Vegas
    • Utah: Salt Lake City
    • Michigan: Grand Rapids, Detroit

I do recommend Sunshine's listed resources to look at as well:

  • That makes a lot of sense, at least with what I know about medical stuff (which isn't a ton I'm just a nerd). I'm allergic to red meat and haven't eaten it in several years. Used to crave it like crazy but had an accidental taste a few months ago and it tasted like actual shit.

  • That's so interesting! I'll have to ask my sis if the same thing happens to her (also trans in the opposite direction lol)

  • Thank you friend. Unfortunately because of how deep red my state and how stupid the UK is with this stuff I'm stuck. Just hunkering down and preparing for the worst.

  • Wish I could lol. Broke as shit and I can't just leave my family behind. Unfortunately to get Real ID I have to provide my citizenship documents but those are in my deadname + birth sex and I can't get them fixed without a baseline of $1k (have to pay for at least 2 private doctors in the UK to verify I am my chosen gender, plus court fees and 18+ months processing time).

  • im a dual citizen myself but cant get my passports because im trans 🙃 that and broke as hell but still. id get stopped at the border because a guy with a fullass beard with a 'F' on their passport is considered fraud.

  • All this reminds me of is that video of that guy who's friend "upgraded" his shower pressure. And it was just one hyper-powerful stream out of the whole shower head. Wish I had a link.

  • Transmasc @lemmy.blahaj.zone

Odd question, but did your taste buds change?

  • Listen, I understand where you're coming from. But plant farming can be just as bad as animal farming. They cut down massive swaths of local wildlife, trees, flora, and use pesticides and other means that soak into the ground water and run off into lakes and streams. That affects literally everything too.

Yes, animal farming causes massive emissions. It's filled with cruelty and waste. But so is plant farming. You can sustainably farm. But if you shop anywhere but your own back yard you're contributing to that pollution. The produce we get at markets and stores comes from those big battery farms. Even farmer's markets aren't safe anymore - at least here the sellers are no longer small-time farmers. They're resellers and from the big company owned farms that have more acres than workers. Because it's too expensive for small time farmers to keep up with demand.

Vegan leather is so much worse for the enviroment than leather made from skin. Actual leather decomposes and becomes food for the earth. Vegan leather is usually made of plastic. The nail polish my spouse found recently is vegan - it's made with plastics rather than biodegradable materials like beetle shells and plant-based colors.

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. You are a part of this cycle too.

  • Yup pretty much. It's... complicated if you really dive into it. I'm saying this as a trans person - there are biological differences between people. In literally everyone, though - it's not just a sex thing. No two males, females, intersex, or otherwise are alike biologically. Everyone's biological stats are different. Even twins are different.

These categories exist in science to easily communicate basic ideas based on medical observations. But once you get to the nitty-gritty of a person's personal medical history it's really hard to categorize certain things. You can have "true" females with more male hormones than "true" males and vice-versa. You can be born without any sex organs and still develop into an adult.

Bodies are weird. Medical science is very complicated and interesting. We really don't know what we're doing still or how a lot of our biology operates. Can you attribute someone's sports prowess to their hormones? Maybe? I don't know. I don't think it matters in the grand scheme of things. I think someone's determination to do something is a bigger indicator of how well they'll do in the end.

Nothing's certain in science. Disproving something is easy. Proving things is a lot harder lol.

  • Ohio @midwest.social

State House is pushing to add gender essentialism to the state budget, forced religious instruction time and stripping public schools of funding among others (H.B. 96)

  • Whatever the answer is, it's going to take years if not decades. I wish I had the answers. I wish I had the power to make things right. I wish I could stop the suffering. All I can do is do what I can. For now, that's surviving. For now, all I can do is continue to be kind to people and educate them when I can. Help them when I have the ability to.

My fellow disabled person, I see you. A murmur can become a tidal wave with time. We must stick together. We cannot lose hope. We must go on.
