  • As long as they keep seeing x number of immigrants arriving each day, they'll keep voting far right. They just want them to stop, I think they've been clear on that. They want a party who says what they want to hear (I doubt Reform would be able to do anything about it).

I think the reason why asylum seekers aren't allowed to work is because the stay is supposed to be strictly temporary. They're supposed to return home when things are safe. Letting them work would probably make it less likely they're going to return home if they start settling. I can't see that being a popular policy as they'll see it making the UK more inviting (either way it's the wrong move as they'll just complain they're on benefits).

  • I don't think letting asylum seekers work would make a blind bit of difference. The right just don't want them here at all. They want them to stop coming, not let them continue coming but then working. The right will just complain that they're taking people's jobs.

I'd be curious what approach Corbyn's policy would be on this.

  • The Lewes Pound – the UK’s final surviving local currency – is being officially discontinued after 16 years of circulation

I didn't even know you could get ultra localised currencies like this.

  • Do you have the phone? What's your impression of it? I'm in the market for a new phone but I'm struggling to find a device that grabs my attention. They all seem to have something that puts me off them.

  • Based on this context you probably deserve a down vote for being annoying with your reply but a ban is excessive. Not unless you've got a history of doing that in the community and they've got sick of you.

  • Change the vehicle tax to be based on height, width and length dimensions.

  • Is it still operating? For some reason I thought it stopped quite a while ago. Or maybe that's the one that used to cross the channel.

  • We have grey squirrels in the UK, although they're not native. They're responsible for the decline in native red squirrels, you rarely see them now unless you go to particular areas.

  • What's the point of putting the governor name on the road sign? How is that information useful to drivers?

  • I've no idea, it's not something I've tinkered with since my Nexus 4. I'll be honest, I just can't be bothered with flashing custom ROMs to my phone these days, I haven't got the time nor the energy. Cheers for the suggestion though :)

I've had my phone for over 6 years so I think I've probably done more than most on that front, and I'd love my next phone to last just as long which is why I'm skeptical about the battery on the Pixel 10. Seeing comments from people saying they're upgrading from their Pixel 7 because the battery life isn't great is a big red flag, that phone isn't old.

If there were a 6.0" variant of the OnePlus 13 then I think I'd probably choose that.

  • What's the difference?

  • It's not getting OS updates, I'm stuck on Android 11, and the battery life isn't what it used to be. Upgrading to a new phone would give me longer battery life that I'm getting now, but my phone for the first few years would comfortably get me well into a second day, where as I feel like the pixel 10 would last a day, but how long would it last after a few years? When these phones cost £800+ (my phone cost £500) it's difficult to justify buying them.

  • I feel very underwhelmed. I think if it had a slightly bigger battery and fast charging then I'd likely pull the trigger on the 10, but it feels like a downgrade from my 6 year old phone that I'm running now.

Honestly no idea what phone I can upgrade to, I've been putting it off for a couple of years now.

  • I wish they'd create a 6" version. I'm looking to replace my 6T but I'm so underwhelmed by the choices out there. The Pixel 10 is at the top of my list but I'm not at all excited by it from what we know of it so far.

  • sign-up figures are insane, 650 k is huge! The last published Labour membership figures were about one third of that.

It's 650k people subscribing to a list vs being a member. Not really the same thing.

  • Just scrap school uniform entirely and don't allow any obvious branding on clothes. It's such a fucking waste of time.

  • Just to be clear the law doesn't say you have to scan your face. That's just one option to verify a persons age and websites (and users) are choosing that method. I believe other options are to use a credit card or maybe show some kind of government ID. It's all fucked but the government aren't making people scan their faces, that's just one viable method.

  • Combustion engine tech has stagnated like the last 4 decades,

This isn't true at all, combustion engines have improved by huge amounts in terms of efficiency and reliability in that time.

  • But this would be eye wateringly expensive. Imagine all the towns and villages that buses serve and now lay rail on all the roads. But it would be even more crazy since the idea would be to increase frequency and variety of destinations.

Now you also need to buy expensive trams (relative to a bus), maintain both rail and roads.

  • The feature where you can hold the phone comfortably in one hand and without having to do any gymnastics to reach the top corner.
