A friend of mine finished her Bachelor’s in chemistry, and for personal reasons chose not to continue with academia. The only job she’s had for the past year was a part-time cleaning job that she quit because she was making less than what she would have gotten on unemployment while physically overextering herself. A trainee position for a pharmacy assistant in the middle of nowhere has 20 applicants. Being transgender is also likely costing her offers.
