  • How many of those are within walking distance of a grocery store? Many of them would likely not be suitable for a low income resident without a motor vehicle.

  • Hm, the photos looks like the exterior walls and roofing are plywood, while the floor is concrete, columns are steel, and roof trusses are steel. And the upper half of the wall is glass. So how much of it is wood, really? 30%? If I lived in a house made of these materials, I would not claim to live in a house built of wood.

  • That was already covered by a new federal law. This is filling the gap.

  • Nah it will just be paywalled and copy protected.

  • I don’t recall ever supporting Israel. But sure maybe my opinion has turned even more sour lately.

  • I’m more surprised that they are still in business at all. I haven’t heard of or seen their coffee in a long time.

  • I don’t think it matters much but on principle your ISP should not be a rights holder of any media.

  • That’s good the work is not seasonal. The permanent workers should be 90% focused on fuel reduction and fire breaks.

  • It depends on the mushroom. Some are easy to identify, while others may require a spore print and/or microscope. Mushrooms Demystified is a good book for the west coast of the US. It’s heavy on text and not on photos so you will need to study a lot to use it well. It’s also not a field guide.

  • Not ironically this would mess up granny and granddad when they activate it accidentally.

  • Try earplugs! Even just turning the volume down 70% changes the intensity of words. With earplugs in I could let somebody curse at me to my face and just let it slide. But without, even ambient noises add to a state of unease. A motorcycle driving by has a lot of subtle negative impact to everybody who hears it. You don’t have to be deaf to enjoy the benefits of silence. Hearing is a choice, but most people default to full open.

  • Maybe they can get Edward Norton back. He played a nazi in American History X so maybe he can pretend to be okay with this.

  • Good bot. Just kidding but this would actually make for a great bot.

  • That’s like saying Xitter is owned by Tesla.

  • State Police consists of CHP, game wardens with cannabis duty, and UC mall cops with military cosplay. Thanks for keeping us safe.

  • It’s all about ignorance and intent. If you grow P.somniferum ornamentally, and/or shake it out for seeds it’s fine. You can even sell the dried pods for floral arrangements. But if you make tea out of the dried pods, or milk the latex it’s illegal. Which is insane since the pharmaceutical opioids are so much more harmful and dangerous.

  • What are you talking about that’s the breadseed poppy.

  • For a while I used the web app because it was actually better - fewer ads and consistent UI. Not anymore.

  • It really depends on the location, terrain, weather, and distance. Most of my hikes I just go in trail running shoes and bring a water bottle. That’s usually enough for up to 5 miles. Further than that I’ll pack snacks. I plan for one snack break every 2 hours or 5 miles of walking. So a nice hefty snack can be good for up to 10 miles. Beyond that I need a meal, like a bagel sandwich. That’s good enough for up to 12 or 15 miles. Beyond that I might bring a pint of beer or something extra like a huge cookie. If you’re going more than 20 miles per day I doubt you need any advice. I’ve done 32 miles, and it was just a lot of snacks (and water).

As another commenter said, trekking poles are nice sometimes. For me I only use them when carrying a load, or for loose or slippery terrain.
