Bookwyrm has been fantastic at cataloging all of the books I don’t read! Man, I miss having an attention span.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•They say word-of-mouth marketing is the most effective form of marketing. What games did you (not) enjoy that came well-recommended by friends to you, and why did they recommend it to you?
5·20 days agoVampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines I didn’t get around to playing this game until about a decade after its release, and I seriously don’t understand who could find that game enjoyable except 13yo edgelords.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Help! OPi 5 Plus UEFI not booting from any diskEnglish
3·2 months agoI feel like dancing! Wiped my SPI, installed the OPi Debian to my eMMC using dd commands, and I’m back in business.
I give it 1 week before I break it again trying to do something stupid.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Help! OPi 5 Plus UEFI not booting from any diskEnglish
3·2 months agoFor the uboot, I think I tried both of these: https://github.com/schneid-l/u-boot-orangepi5 https://github.com/orangepi-xunlong/u-boot-orangepi
I’m not sure what exactly changed, I used the same SD card, the same OPi image, used Balena Etcher to burn the image to the card… this time it booted into the live image from my SD! It’s a start!
Now I’m just trying to wipe my SPI of UEFI, reinstall uboot, then do a fresh install of Debian and try again with PXVirt.
For one, most articles that you think are factual are fairly biased and opinionated. For two, every obituary from one of your “factual” sources will be a fluff piece burying the bad and cherry picking the good, like they are for all the other dead pieces of shit.

networking@sh.itjust.works•WiFi router vs wired router + WiFi access point?English
2·4 months agoThanks for the recommendations! I pulled the trigger and ordered the following:
- TP-Link ER605v2 wired router (I’ll flash this with OpenWRT)
- Cudy AC1200 wifi access point
- Netgear GS305P unmanaged switch with POE

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•feedback on my next steps for self hostingEnglish
2·5 months agoYeah, I was also starting to lean toward putting NextCloud on the OPi. There’s just not much happening on my OPi and I was only hesitating from trying that because I didn’t think the OPi could handle it, but it’s worth trying.

3·5 months agoThanks for the feedback!
- I may not have labeled that accurately, I just plan to use Tailscale to access these services from specific authorized devices.
- I meant “before I do something that is a pain to correct”. Like starting with the wrong OS or file system format.
- My plan is to build a media server which will include 4k media, so I think my storage may need to grow over time… maybe TrueNAS is something I can add later if needed?
- I guess the reason I was thinking of 2 separate machines is that I’ve heard using an OPi as a media server or NextCloud server will go really slow and potentially cause other issues. Plus I already have an old computer doing nothing right now, just needs new SSDs.

2·5 months agoUsed the whiteboard tool in Clickup. It’s a lot like FigJam.
I’ll probably go this route, thanks!
Oh, those look nice! Looks like they’re sold out at the official retailer sites though. Bummer.
Could you expand on that? If I were looking for federated platforms that get a lot of activity from artists posting their work, what would you recommend?

Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•Sources of California greenhouse gas emissions71·1 year agoYeah, this report is designed with a transportation agenda in mind, so the graph only shows a select set of emission sources to make the tailpipe emissions look as bad as possible. Add in all other sources of emissions and the graph doesn’t look quite as impressive for the point they’re trying to make.
Figure 1: In the 2019 statewide greenhouse gas emissions inventory, car tailpipes accounted for 119 MMTCO2e — roughly 28% of California’s overall emissions, and more than the emissions from the entire buildings sector and electricity sector combined.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Minimal Micro-ATX case for external PSUEnglish
11·1 year agoI feel ya. I have a dog and three cats, but so far have not had an issue with hair or cable chewing. The frame is essentially just a kit of 2020 extruded aluminum t-slot rails with connectors. If I were to do this again, I would probably not go with a kit and instead just buy the rails and connectors I need for my specific motherboard/components. Also, any extra rails/connectors you get could go toward a DIY 3D printing frame (that’s my next project)!

01·2 years agoOn one hand, there will always be idiots and those who will take advantage of them.
On the other hand, I think less people would be susceptible to “alternative” remedies if there was more trust in the medical industry. That trust has been eroded quite a bit over the years.

If I recall correctly, the game already had plenty of auto-pause options that essentially made combat turn-based. Am I misremembering?
