  • Anarchists can have ideological disagreements with MLs without deepthroating western interpretations of eastern European events

This meme is giving me PugJesus vibes - hope that guy is doing ok.

  • He's doing what a lot of actual antisemitic nationalists do, which is intentionally conflating/ hiding behind the already established conflation between Israel and the Jewish people.

I don't think we should be surprised that neonazis are taking the opportunity to call out the genocide in Gaza - we should also not be fooled into thinking they're being earnest.

  • I saw it here

The Nigerian government also confirmed the US attack on Friday. The Foreign Ministry stated that such operations were part of ongoing security cooperation with the US, which had led to "precision strikes on terrorist targets" in the northwest of the country

  • It should be mentioned that the Nigerian government says they requested the strike

  • Planet of the mice when?

  • yea, I guess I was thinking 1tb was at least a manageable size for a homebrewer, especially if you were only interested in archiving the top 1 or 2 million songs.

It's still not a casually sized torrent by any means, but it's a lot more manageable than 300tb. If you're someone who wants to archive that much media, you probably have enough tech literacy to manage several torrent clients. The article also says they're willing to make individual songs available on their website, "if people are interested in it".

  • Huh, when I read the press release I thought it was saying they were going to break them down into smaller chunks sorted by popularity

  • "They lied" implies intent to deceive.

  • I'm still not arguing against their disqualification, I'm saying people need to lay off the sauce - it's not hard to imagine how this could have been accidental and not malicious.

We don't need to torch an effigy every time a studio mentions AI in an interview.

  • Still, there's a lot of room there for some grace. I don't think it's unreasonable to strip them of the award, but the level of outrage I'm seeing in this thread and elsewhere isn't proportionate to the offense.

People really need to chill with this.

  • People keep saying the problem 'wasnt that they used AI placeholder assets, it's that they lied on the disclosure', but boy does that still seem like a reach

When you have dozens of people working on a huge creative project, it would take an almost omniscient creative director to know where every asset in every scene came from with certainty. It isn't hard to imagine a designer somewhere on the team sneaking an AI asset into a pre-release build and forgetting about it. The fact that it was later disclosed suggests that whoever was applying for the award wasn't aware of that asset being used and then replaced at the time of submission.

I dont mind having some awards dedicated to genAI-free works, but people really need to stop getting their pitchforks out at every mention, otherwise they risk turning into a lynch mob. This doesnt sound like an intentional omission to me.

  • "Honey, all I need is $10,000 for a server and we'll never pay for Spotify again"

  • 14 years of experience has made me much more sympathetic to that man than I was when this first went viral

I have definitely had this experience with my dog, except it was a flock of ducks and he swam halfway across a lake after them

  • It's wild to me how much of a boogeyman Russia has been made into in lib circles.

There are probably a dozen or so countries who actively root for and foment political discontent in the US, but for some reason any American that falls into alignment with some loose formation of anti-democraric positions qualifies specifically as a Russian agent

Libs do not realize just how xenophobic their own politics have become. Just because you think your fears are justified doesn't mean they arent irrational

  • RO filters are great.... for drinking water. They end up wasting as much water as they produce filtered, and that's for the advanced high-efficiency ones - standard systems waste 300-400% of the total clean water output. That's why I only ever reccomend the under-sink ones with a dedicated drinking water dispenser - otherwise you're wasting 30-40 gallons of water for a 5 minute shower (or in this case, rinsing your fucking car). And unless you're drinking nothing but blended margaritas, there's no fucking reason to use it for an ice machine.

Using RO filters for stupid shit like this makes me so much angrier than wasting it on AI slop factories IMO, because at least a datacenter is centralized and can be regulated/monitored and made more efficient (in theory). There is literally nothing preventing a bunch of rich LA assholes bathing and showering with RO water because they think it will prevent autism or some bullshit, and I'm losing my mind with rage.

  • That's a 10/10 headline, no notes

  • China has many more socialized services and their income level is far less indicative of overall quality of life

It has honestly been a long time since I heard someone in the west suggest the chinese economy is struggling at all - i thought maybe something meaningful had happened in the last week or something that changed that picture
