Similar to what OP is doing - minimizing consumption as much as I can, and being selective with sources when I have to. If I need something, I try to buy used first.
This includes, but is not limited to, avoiding US products and services. I still have investments, but try to focus on ESG as much as possible (though I'm aware that participating in stock markets etc is problematic in itself, but I don't have a lot of choice in the matter).
I'm also trying to move away from a profit/monetary value maximizing mindset, and want to focus on sustainability, durability and social benefits.
In reality, these are all goals that I often fall short of. But I want to keep trying and get better.
I'm not gonna pretend everything is fine and dandy here. Not an Alberta native, and a lot of things still shock me even after 3 years here (how dominant religion is in some segments of the population, all the fucking trucks everywhere all the time, people keep on voting conservative despite, well, everything they're actually doing...). But I don't think it's as big of a majority as one would think. FPTP politics will distort reality and make the place look more conservative than it really is. All that to say - I get the negative image, and the reality on the ground will vary based on where you are and who you meet. Hopefully we can get the place into a state where people feel safe coming here.
Bring in European/NATO country civilian aid to fix it. If Russia strikes again, you now have a reason to escalate support for Ukraine (including interpreting this as an attack on non Ukrainian assets). If they don't, the sarcophagus gets fixed. Which is the main goal.
