  • And we'll all be too poor to buy it, but then those who caused the issue and used their golden parachute to escape it can buy it up and use it to cause the next bubble.

  • I grew up in Florida. Have left a few times, but moved back in 2019 then left again in 2022 right before shit really hit the fan. 20 years ago Florida was a lot nicer than it is now. 10 years ago, too. Maga has turned the quiet, chill little beach town I grew up in into a maga hell, and now you couldn't pay me to go back. The worst thing about Florida used to be the weather. Used to be.

But also growing up each and every single "new kid" at school was from New York, and there were lots of jokes about us living in 'South New York' so I can see where the prediction came from, there's plenty of precedent. But that was when land was cheap and politics were similar.

  • consider themselves

Is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that statement.

  • A lot of liberal boomers really liked and trusted Colin Powell for some reason, so his vouching for Iraqi WMDs really sinched it with that demographic.

  • TFW you spend $600 a month on a subscription iot toilet camera just to find out it's been taking pictures from inside your toilet and sending them over the internet!

  • MGMT sued the DHS for using their song Little Dark Age in their propaganda, interesting there's no stories about that.

Edit for context: The DHS Instagram account used their song in a propaganda video for ICE. MGMT nearly immediately publicly responded, and actually successfully got the video taken down. They then sued.

And you can't make this shit up, those running the account are either sociopaths with a dark sense of humor or utterly clueless, because a) The song is called Little Dark Age, written during and about Hitler-lite's first term, and they titled their video "The End of a Dark Age" and b) the section of the song they used goes: "Policemen swear to God, love seeping from their guns. I know my friends and would probably turn and run. If you get out of bed, come find us heading For the bridge, bring a stone, all the rage, my little dark age" and they are playing that over footage of masked, armed agents forcibly kidnapping citizens. And it's to make the agents and agency look good? It's fucking lunacy. How is that anything but a call to other psychos out there that if they sign up they get to kill hippies and wetbacks? Damn, I got too mad, I'm out.

  • But it comes with a free frozen yogurt!

  • People of Earth was fantastic. Wyatt Cenac really had a great run in the 2010s.

I'll have to give Threshold a shot since it was recommended by a fellow Person.

  • Substantive? That's a bit of a stretch. One reply that cites any sources and not a single one would get past a community college level RA.

It is laughable to me that you think we're on different sides. There are two sides, manipulators and manipulatees, and none of us here are the manipulators, though you may have created an echo chamber to increase the volume of certain manipulations.

'Sides' aside, do I have anything to say for myself? Of course. Would the time spent add any value to my life or fulfil any purpose? Maybe, but the ROI is too slim. You can't reason a person out of an opinion they didn't reason themselves into. It's the same reason I don't waste time arguing with MAGA these days. Even on the off chance you're talking to a real person, presenting them with any kind of evidence is just going to make them double down on their opinion. That's just human psychology, The Backfire Effect in action. I made the mistake of not checking where I was before commenting at all. Coming back here to reply to you was probably a mistake in and of itself, but this whole 'sides' thing just irks me. I hope you don't really feel that way. If we both want to move the country to the left, then disagreements like this only serve to benefit those who want to move the country further to the right. There's this book that outlines exactly how to create these ideological disagreements that drive wedges into opposition to the right, and who it benefits, but for some reason y'all have completely discounted it even though everything written in it has come to pass since. If y'all want to outright reject reality then more power to you, but I don't have to involve myself.

  • I didn't sign off on this.

  • Always remember that while The Democratic Party is far from perfect, this is Russian propaganda. The party and the rules it has to play by are changed by voting locally, early, and often. Spreading the voter apathy message that both parties are the same and our votes are inconsequential just gives more power to the oppressors.

  • Pics or it didn't happen.

  • Ha!

  • I'm a chill guy, but put me in a car and I just want to get from A. to B. as fast as possible, and interfering with that will make me angry. I have thought a lot about this and have come to realize I just hate driving. I hate everything about it. I want to limit my time in a car to a minimum, and it can make me act in ways contradictory to my personality. I fully believe this is the same issue suffered by most people who have a road rage problem, even people who love their car or value their independence. Millions of otherwise chill people get out on the road and turn into lunatics because driving a car is an unnatural wholey overstimulating process.
