  • Thanks for explaining!

Totally agree that it's vulnerable to malicious actors at the moment.

Groups can be private and have an invite code, which is a bit better, but anyone with the code can join the group. If this gets any traction at all, I'll definitely need to add an approval process for joining a group.

As for single admin vs democratic decisions - I agree that your suggestion would be more preferable/equitable, but I don't really want to add a voting mechanism this early in the project.

I could definitely see a future where these things are combined, and the creator of a group can decide how folks join the group and how decisions are made in the group.

Thanks so much for your help!!

  • Thanks so much for taking a look & responding!

embrace more anarchist logic for kicking people out

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. Could you say more about the logic?

share all doesn't seem to work, but maybe that's default account being used

It worked when I just tried it, but I'll dig more into this and see if there's something messed up

I think i've heard of similar stuff

If you have pointers, I'd love to check out similar projects!

people may not be super familiar with needs or have something they can lend they forgot about

GREAT point - a nonprofit nearby was looking for plastic grocery bags and I doubt folks would think to add those to the app.I'll be adding 'requests' next!

    map should be fuzzed

Agree, I've been stuck mulling over how to actually implement this.

I really like the idea of just letting folks talk it out, and I'm now leaning towards moving location off users and onto groups.

e.g. there's a 'downtown' group, with a pin (+ radius?) on the map, users join based on proximity, then they can figure out more precise location between themselves.

I think I'm actually gonna go with this - thank you for helping get me unstuck!!!!!

  • Thanks for checking it out, and thanks for your feedback!

Request board is a great idea! I'll probably implement that next.

I haven't thought about transportation info - added it to the backlog!

Available / checked out status should be pretty easy to add, but I've been holding off.

    • it seemed a bit early to add when there's no actual usage & most stuff will just be 'available' for now
    • it didn't seem like a major burden for individuals to manage telling folks "yeah it's checked out now, but you can use it next"
    • I'm worried about the status getting stale (though this could be partially mitigated w/ an 'updated at' timestamp)
    • I think the only way it'd actually affect users is by discouraging them from requesting something that's checked out, which I don't really want to do at this point

Mostly, I'm worried that it wouldn't get used and/or have a bad signal to noise ratio, and I was planning on adding it if usage got to a point where it'd be useful. In a similar vein (but way bigger in scope), I'm not planning on adding a queuing system for who gets a thing next unless that becomes necessary.

RE: reconciliation app, are you saying that this app could do the same thing?I think that'd be outside of the project scope (at least for now), but maybe there's something there with the combination of requests and offerings... We'll see!
