MJ12 Detachment Agent

  • The Deus Ex series often have pacificist playthroughs (3rd one definitely does, you can play a pacificist playthrough of the OG game with a few exceptions).

The Age of Decadence has a mostly skill check and conversation playthrough. I forget if it's fully pacifict though.

  • Haven't tried the demo yet. I will probably try it out before deciding whether to get the release version.

But it feels like my kind of game (I love restaurant management sims and I like sci-fi). I just hope the management and business sim elements aren't too simplistic

  • I would really like to try out this VR headset, almost as a technology history type project.

  • This reads like a joke. :)

  • Looking through Steam tracker it does seem to be incest and fetish porn games removed:

https://steam-tracker.com/ (you can sort the table by date).

Or am I missing something? I am genuinely curious.

I am no supporter of Collective Shout, but there are many examples of US tech companies ignoring local laws due to a toxic mix of corruption and arrogance. Steam initially not giving refunds is one relevant example.

I don't understand OP's post. If you want sexy/porn games on Steam (I even have 1 or 2) best option is to comply with local laws and get rid of incest, rape and extreme fetish content.

The devs can setup a patreon (without explicit references to incest) and email new builds to subscribers. It's not unreasonable to expect a few hoops considering the nature of the content. I would even go as far as saying that it's in their benefit to keep a low profile (i.e. not be listed on Steam).

  • Is it though?

Valve openly refused to honour legally required refunds because of the culture of corruption and criminality that is unfortunately extremely prevalent in the US.

I believe it was complaints from Australia that forced them to provide refunds on a global level.

    How is this different?

  • The Amiga supported two mice connected at the same time, allowing for multiplayer in games such as The Settlers and Lemmings.

    Never knew about this.

  • Are you sure that something like incest wasn't illegal to start with in many places where Steam operates?

I would speculate that many places ban incest containing media and Steam simply didn't bother following these rules.

That's a whole different discussion compared to the messaging in OP's text.

  • Itch had to limit dynamic filtering (like searching for Arcade + Fantasy) to just a few preset tags because of the server load.

That sounds rough. I follow a few devs/projects on Itch, but I don't really use their discovery features.

  • Oh wow. Itch is also involved even though I would assume they have less than 1% of Steam's gross revenues.

  • The risk with this approach is that tax breaks go to projects like Chris Roberts' Star Citizen.

UK public is in a sense subsidizing Star Citizen.

And the formal justification for their current tax breaks (not related to the announced initiative in the article) is that SQ42 and Star Citizen somehow represent (promote?) British culture. I am not even joking.

  • That's true! :) Didn't even think of that.

    Guess Piefed needs a mascot.

  • I would be fine without a full-on open world, maybe a bit more content and larger maps than in VTMB (I always thought the Santa Monica map could have been larger and more expansive).

The writing, world-building and ambience must be top notch in a sequel to VTMB.

  • It's no open world. But there are hubs, often there are multiple ways to finish a quest and there are quest lines that are limited by your skill and clans selection.

But the main story quest is rather linear.

  • straight linear action game with stripped down to non-existent RPG elements

This does not sound good. VTMB is not supposed to be linear, you want to explore a living world.

I haven't been following the release trailers or previous, just saw some concept art from both the first studio that failed and The Chinese Room.

At least now I can manage my expectations.

  • When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought this was some DOS racing game.

I don't remember the N64 version having a semi-realistic looking map. But it's been over 20 years since I played it at my friend's place.

  • Supposedly the first studio failed to make a fun game and they had to restart with The Chinese Room (Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Still Wakes the Deep).

I think they are on track with it, but we got to wait longer.
