  • Jellyfin is awesome. The only thing is getting remote access to work has been hard for me to figure out. I’m very glad that there’s multiple good options for media servers.

  • A couple years ago I bought a lifetime license for Plex and it has been so wonderful. I can truly own my media that I’ve purchased, watch it from any device, and share it with Family and close friends.

  • Signal for messaging

    Proton ecosystem for Google stuff

I don’t really know of any social media alternatives.

Firefox, Hardened Safari, or Brave for Browsers (I prefer Brave especially on ios. The add blockers and protections work a lot better than a lot of options) I also mainly used hardened Safari for a while and it also worked really well.

1password works great for passwords, I’ve also heard great things about Proton Pass which is part of the Proton ecosystem. (I want to try Proton eventually when I can afford it)

  • Plain old vanilla. We used to get those big gallon buckets of ice cream cause they were cheap.

  • Never even heard of these before today. This seems so interesting and would be really nice if you live in a really rural area.

  • I’m curious what makes you say that. What evidence is there to support Marxism? Isn’t Marxism just communism? Just genuinely curious. I always thought that communism has been proven not to work multiple times throughout history. Not trying to say I think Capitalism is perfect. I definitely agree that Capitalism that is unrestrained and companies that are allowed to reign free is bad for the common people.

  • Yeah that’s a good point. I think the appeal of Jellyfin is it being an open source project.

  • At this point the only thing holding me back from switching to Jellyfin is Plex’s transcoded download function.

  • Hmm I did not know about that. Tbh I’m not sure. Can you show me where you heard about that?

  • I like using Deemix

  • I use NextDNS. I use it network wide on my home internet and also have it installed on all my devices.

  • Piracy is a service problem

  • Wow love to see it. I wish a lot more companies would put protections like this for their workers.

  • This same sentiment is what’s driven me to pirating all the movies and tv shows I own. I want total control over the things I’ve bought and paid for with my money. I also think this is crucial for the preservation of media.

  • I like using Jackett as a search engine across a ton of sites. I can usually always find what I’m looking for.

  • Can’t wait till all the genealogy companies like 23 & me start selling our genetic information to insurance companies.

  • I really like airvpn.

  • I really enjoy having Plex as my media server. It’s about the same amount of hassle as Emby, and there’s also Jellyfin which I haven’t dabbled into yet.

  • How does Kodi compare to Plex? Are there any features it has similar or different?

  • Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ @lemmy.dbzer0.com

Is it wrong to pirate movies I've purchased digitally and load onto my Plex server?
