Technology@lemmy.world•Dynamic pricing could be coming to your local supermarketEnglish
5·4 months agoI completely agree. Best case scenario I hope this becomes illegal, however if not then I still would never shop somewhere with this sort of scummy tactic.

22·4 months agoTime to vote with our wallets. I absolutely will refuse to shop at any store in my area that starts implementing this.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What would be the best way to host a SimpleX smp and xftp server?English
0·5 months agoInteresting. Could you expound on why that option, and what some pros and cons would be?
I like using Brave. They also have some AI features but they’re super easy to turn off.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s something you own that has truly paid for itself?English
1·8 months agoJellyfin is awesome. The only thing is getting remote access to work has been hard for me to figure out. I’m very glad that there’s multiple good options for media servers.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s something you own that has truly paid for itself?English
22·8 months agoA couple years ago I bought a lifetime license for Plex and it has been so wonderful. I can truly own my media that I’ve purchased, watch it from any device, and share it with Family and close friends.

Proton ecosystem for Google stuff
I don’t really know of any social media alternatives.
Firefox, Hardened Safari, or Brave for Browsers (I prefer Brave especially on ios. The add blockers and protections work a lot better than a lot of options) I also mainly used hardened Safari for a while and it also worked really well.
1password works great for passwords, I’ve also heard great things about Proton Pass which is part of the Proton ecosystem. (I want to try Proton eventually when I can afford it)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the most polarizing thing you've ever done or said?English
5·2 years agoI’m curious what makes you say that. What evidence is there to support Marxism? Isn’t Marxism just communism? Just genuinely curious. I always thought that communism has been proven not to work multiple times throughout history. Not trying to say I think Capitalism is perfect. I definitely agree that Capitalism that is unrestrained and companies that are allowed to reign free is bad for the common people.

2·2 years agoYeah that’s a good point. I think the appeal of Jellyfin is it being an open source project.

92·2 years agoAt this point the only thing holding me back from switching to Jellyfin is Plex’s transcoded download function.

Technology@beehaw.org•Mashable, PC Mag, and Lifehacker win unprecedented AI protections in new union contractEnglish
5·2 years agoWow love to see it. I wish a lot more companies would put protections like this for their workers.

Brave Search is really good too and you can also turn off the AI search aspect.
