  • That whole "civilizational erasure" quote was so vague, grand and threatening that it sounded just like it came straight out of kremlin. It's the kind of bullshit declaration russians love to make

  • I know Sennheisers are german but those are also made in Romania these days. Nice to see Meze here as well

Anecdotally, while I love my sennies because nothing sounds like them, I'm still nursing a pair of older 559s and hoping they last forever because absolutely every single one of the newer ones I bought had or developed issues.

  • Discord probably did the math and are willing to take a hit to the user counts (much like reddit did when they closed the apis), as the vast majority will stay and keep "threatening" to leave. There's at least the hope that the ones who quit now will establish communities elsewhere, on a (hopefully) better server platform.

  • targeting tech companies who, they believe, are not doing enough to stand up against President Trump's aggressive immigration crackdown

Oh ffs, they're not doing enough because they've submitted to him! They literally went to his inauguration to kiss the ring!

But better to wake up late then never I suppose

  • One of the major changes with Civilization VI was that Firaxis had access to lot more player telemetry, compared to Civilisation V, rather than monitoring the feedback on Reddit and fansites like CivFanatics. Amongst other things, they discovered that most players don’t finish a single game, which is part of the reason for Civ 7’s more broken-up, modular historical progression.

So they used all that user data to change the future game to appeal to the lowest common denominator, as it were. And it resulted in the most controversial civ of recent years. And their plan for the future? Continue like this, of course - only now they're considering formalizing this approach with an official EA label. God I hate the gaming landscape these days

  • Omg wasn't this story on reddit a few days ago? Something is off here. Why would the cat simply stay there for 5 days? No cat would just sit there for that long - hunger usually gets the better of them and they risk jumping even if afraid at first. Also why haven't people done anything about that cat in the days since this was posted on reddit? If that cat really is stuck don't wait for the fkn electric company, get a fkn ladder and get the cat. Or get a blanket under the pole and prod the cat until it jumps. No one has been doing anything about that cat for 5 days, wtf?? None of this makes any sense

  • Not sure if the bbc noticed, but there already is a goddamn arms race going on, and everyone is taking part. What a time to be alive

  • Hm, doesn't look much worse than some of the B roads i've driven there

  • Nice try economist

  • Not too take away any of epstein's shittiness, but I'd bet bobby and the board would have already thought up mtx by 2012.

  • Privacy is not a yes/no flag, you can have different degrees of privacy across different types of activities online. I said I wouldn't mind them monitoring my game activity if I found it was used to improve one of their services. I was speculating. Just like you speculating that they do harvest the data and that they sell it to others ( not sure where that came from ). Also since you mention a steam account, do you think they're not harvesting your data so they can sell you things ( at the very least ) ? Why are you giving up on privacy?

Point is if you're online your activity will be monitored. If you want privacy play offline games on an offline machine, preferably on linux. Otherwise start to think about all the tools you use and if them harvesting your data is worth what you get in return

  • Pretty sure they do it but I don't mind it that much. If they're using that data to improve DLSS or whatever then it means at least it's helping to improve a service.

  • Stardew Valley has to be the most stressful "cozy" game I've played. Busywork, 24h day with exhaustion mechanics, timed and seasonal events etc. Let me tend to my garden dammit!

Factorio is a lot more relaxing - just disable aliens and build your optimised factory in peace

Edit: protip - If you want a chill gardening game, get Starbound and some plant mods.

  • I mean DDR3 is provably fine. I ran a 16GB DDR3 machine with a goddamn 2500k up until several years ago and pre-2020 games usually ran fine, on playable framerates ( i did have win7, not sure how win10 fares ). Question is: who is this article for? Most tech enhusiasts have probably moved on by now, and even those are a small subset of PC users. "Normies"? Those moved on to phones and tables - it's why MS Windows has lost 400million machines in 3 years. So who are all these people so left behind that DDR3 is an upgrade but are still currently itching to buy ram? I don't get it.

  • Pricing on this is something else, man. 70€ base, 100€ deluxe, 120€ for the premium. And they moved most of content into the premium tier. The only difference btw the 70 and the 100 € versions is the car pass ( which could act as a huge car pack as in the past they had a couple dozen cars ). Also the premium tier does not include future car packs ( which may be fair but i have a feeling they will nickle and dime us for cars already present in FH4/FH5 ). There's a good chance the game will be good, but you can also bet MS will squeeze us dry.

  • The actual number of applications was not disclosed.

So then the article doesn't really say much, does it. It could well be 20->31 applicants.

  • True, but it looks like it may have been a railway issue on that (recently renovated) sector.

  • AGAIN? Holy crap, if this wasn't sabotage then heads need to roll in that ministry

  • For an article quoting a study, this one is embarrasingly short on actual references or links to the reddit subs and posts it mentions. There's literally only a link to the 2018 study and the rest coild well be speculation.

Now I don't know about corporate manipulation, but what I can confirm I've seen is a lot of small businesses using reddit to shift opinions. For example: local rental car providers on the madeira sub. Or food retailers on my local city's sub.

And, more worryingly, there's an absurd amount of political propaganda. For example the waves of accounts on my native language sub supporting absolutely everything a political party does. Or the blatant manipulation being done on conservative. Or the sudden vanishing of near all kamala-supporting accounts in the morning following american election night. It's absolutely astounding.
