  • no. children get shot and killed at school on a monthly basis here and all the government can think to do is age-gate porn

  • In the US children get shot and killed at school on a monthly basis and all the government can think to do is age-gate porn and ban books

  • hosts file block twitter/reddit/facebook/etc on all my computers. i guess i haven't done it on my phone because i can't be bothered [and regardless of how much i need a hit, i'm not gonna sit there on my phone browser for hours anyway]

  • OK please bear with me -- who in the name of god feels more comfortable or better or soothed about their life by calling a stranger, who knows nothing about their situation, who has a little button that calls the cops on them and could get them involuntarily hospitalized or shot.... I mean seriously I'm an introvert and whenever I'm that depressed I'm not exactly...outgoing.

  • Treating it anthropomorphically is a sign of respect, similar to how a sailor would bond with their ship. It's not necessarily BAD or dumber or wrong to talk with it like its human - that's clearly what every single interface is telling you to do by representing it like a texting partner. You can't interact with a machine that speaks english non-anthropomorphically.

What happened to techbros from the 90s to now?

  • API pricing is such a shitty obnoxious dogshit practice that is now of course becoming standard because of course it is. internet barely costs money come the fuck on make a quality product

It used to be a respected standard for developers and hosts to be somewhat open and friendly to 3rd party devs, because ultimately they're customers and they're helping recruit and retain customers, they should be treated with respect. just because it's innovative and disruptive to invent the machine gun doesn't mean it's good

  • We live at a time of artificial plenty and everyone's stressed. It literally doesn't have to be a bad thing, either. We don't judge people who take on prestigious corporate jobs that will by nature make them more stressed and worn down. They get money, 75% of us get to eat tasty food and treats.

  • all this bullshit about taking their phones away...they have to wake up at 7am for school and be there all day, they can't even have one bit of joy? they can't do banter during class or record a lecture or look stuff up? why are we acting like school has to be strict because it has to seem strict

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Do normal people mute the ads or just let the television keep going?

  • Mildly Infuriating @lemmy.world

Many TV stations put a banner ad in the picture these days

  • the supreme court literally gave biden unchecked power and he's done fuck all with it. you should want unchecked power so you can actually improve conditions.

  • it's ridiculous how much we jerk off to being the greatest country in the world ever but we can't even have this basic quality of life feature that so many other countries have made work. fucking israel has universal healthcare! what a pathetic empire

  • my city is literally prohibited from using public funds for any type of train because of some GOP devil magic thing -- so all we have is busses, which suck because you're still beholden to traffic jams and lights and speed limits and roads. pointless and not even a sense of whimsy or transcendence

  • i like when people use big words cause then i can learn a new word. it's nice knowing words to say stuff with

  • we should bring back the cape. nice and flowy, not constraining, looks striking

  • i hate how this "best performers" rhetoric always comes out in WFH discussion. everyone should be able to work from home if it's better for them regardless of if they're The Best at their dunder-mifflin ass job
