  • I really value the camera on my phone, since it is essentially my main camera and I enjoy taking pictures. I might rather lean into graphene-ing this pixel than a fair phone, unfortunately. But probably not purchase a future pixel, since they abandoned the physical SIM slot

  • Okayest crested grebe

  • Intentionally over-complicating a device so that it must be repaired (additional revenue) by a 'professional' that they approve of (additional revenue) with their own parts (additional revenue).

You might expect a company that makes easier-to-repair things to retain more customers, but 'more customers' is an incentive because it means more profit, but if you can get several more profit more directly by doing these shenanigans, then why wouldn't unregulated capitalists go in that direction?

  • If you experience that world often enough, it is real in a way.

The representation of the place is virtual but the memories made in it are real.

If reality itself could be a simulation and we don't know any different, would knowing it's a simulation change the realness and validity of our experiences within?

Fascinating topic, really. It's cool how art can make you wonder.

😏😏😂 heheheh (I have to sense of humor of an 8th grader)

  • I really like swappa for the ability to return the phone to the seller for refund.

In theory eBay also allows this, but since it's a core feature of the swappa marketplace that it gives me comfort that the phone is listed in good faith and they haven't misrepresented the phone.

I suggest it to anyone I know looking for a phone

  • I saw 'FaaS' and immediately thought Freedom as a Service, which is exactly the tagline such a service would have

  • Surely the underlying cmd cli is still there even if the Terminal app wrapper is broken

  • Yessss

  • I think I like an alternative that uses full words instead of a string of no sense symbols and mixed case letters.

Something like what What 3 Words does but for short URLs. That would be easy to convey and type

  • It's true. If you recognize the URL enough to avoid it, then you've been rickrolled without even clicking it. Wirelessly brain rickrolled

  • Infuriatingly, URL shortners are often used in QR codes because they have a character limit-ish (longer strings make for more detailed QR codes, which are harder to scan from further away so it's a trade-off). but if the QR points to a shortened link then it's more difficult to assess where a QR code is pointing without blindly following the link.

  • Does he have a podcost?

  • And now phones are overcompensating, sharpening, airbrushing, and AI correcting photos. They've captured reality and kept going, soon exceeding reality

  • Yeah I took a propa' ganda' at them jugs

  • I went to look up images of zordon and wow he did look like this

  • The irony of tolerating intolerant people to exist openly is that it actually erodes tolerance overall

  • I agree with this a lot.

But also, my cat plays games and does not respect my boundaries, lol

  • Yeah AI isn't causing psychosis, it's amplifying and enabling people who might already have problems.

What is your argument here? That since AI is not the direct cause of it, these articles are pointless? I think we'd want to know if, to use your example, commonly available thing like alcohol was giving people psychosis
