  • she's not wrong though. as a christian in the middle east, you have mosques kicking off every morning, Islam is noticeable in everyday life everywhere (to the extent that I feel that you have a substantially higher religious freedom in Europe as a muslim), and if you do something that is socially (and therefore religiously - as there's a nonexistent division between church, states and culture here) risque, you can also gtfo. so what?

  • I mean to be fair, we sent Keller-Sutter, that joke of a politician. Besides the point that she's an old mothbag hag she also speaks horrible English at a juvenile level. Its straight up embarrassing. Every developing country can present an elected official with high English competence. Instead of being firm with him, we once again pulled our dicks in and plaid the submissive schoolgirl. Let's hope the 39% doesn't last. With that and the current strength of the swiss franc, our exports are going to suffer heavily.

  • i mean, i agree, but then again - every SE has had their fair share of entshittification. i switched to qwant briefly (was using startpage at the time), because startpage got some bad press. then used qwant, thought it was meh without good search results and changed back to startpage, then found out qwant had bad press too after. honestly not suprised if big tech is behind all of it to keep novice users on their platforms and doing their "research" for them.

  • this is huge if true, where'd you read that?

  • yeah 100% agree. we have a saying in Switzerland (probably Germanic in general), "being dumb is one thing, staying dumb is another". maybe not the perfect thing to draw upon but the syntax is the same 😂

  • yeah fully agree. with that logic though there shouldn't be any excuses for people not to be able to join Lemmy because its "too technical". following instructions and taking the initiative of following / learning about your curiosities are two separate things.

  • this was some of the most insightful shit I've read on Lemmy in a while. thanks for this - well written and easy to follow for an aerospace noob.

  • can't code but can oddly setup a pretty fucking dope server

  • america is the only country that is except from Swiss banking privacy laws. they strong armed us with something (still dunno until today what exactly) to have it removed for american citizens.

  • they've been threatening this for year to keep suckling at the tit of governmental subsidies to make Switzerland look more attractive for investors with them being here. I doubt they'll follow through.

  • what covid response? our government simply played on "eigenverantwortung" (personal responsibility). in a country with one of the highest education levels it wasn't difficult to keep a distance of 2 meters during the peak of the pandemic unless you're surrounding yourself with naive people. I was able to go swimming in the lake in the summer, and skiing in the winter while Italy, France and Austria had this banned. weird to think about it but I honestly had a pretty fun time during covid and made some of the best friends to date during it. hell, we even had music festivals and our numbers were not horrible. I think you're thinking of Sweden. happens a lot.
