My favourite superpower? Critical Thinking.

  • INB4 this will be shut down later this year when they find out 90+% of traffic is driven by horny teens bypassing age verification to watch porn.

  • Boil water. Add egg. Wait 7m. Move hot egg to ice cold water. Wait 1m. Remove egg & peel. Add salt and pepper to taste. Eat.

Optional sides: toast, avocado, mustard, dill. Don't overdo it.

  • I read the exchange live this morning. The only possibility left to us is a personal AI of our own that would act as a press officer. Maybe with an AI detector that actually works and a pass through / hold for human mode in case there's a verified person on the other side.

SF? I give it 5 years tops.

  • Read a few more comments here, and I would also exclude BuyFromEU from the ban list tbh.

  • Sure, ban those communities. But, out of curiosity, what does an instance wide community ban achieves that my own block list cannot? I already have a sizeable feddit.org presence on said list, so I doubt I would personally see any difference.

Not a big fan of instance banning though, unless there's serious evidence of wrongdoing on our instance from their users. I'm not a wallflower that needs protecting from opinions, I can make my own mind and choose what to read and what to engage with. See: personal blocklist.

  • Been looking for this.

Back in the day I scored a ticket to an Amanda Palmer show, was absolutely floored when he showed up mid-act, completely unannounced. He was one of my favourite writers, a friend to Sir Terry Pratchett (RIP) , and on top of that, someone who seemed like a genuine force for good in the world. I remember that show made my year, I felt so incredibly lucky, like finding a bike under the tree when you're 4.

Then Good Omens happened, then Sandman, and I was just genuinely happy to see him getting the accolades and recognition.

Not mincing words here, once the allegations started floating up, I felt so angry and personally betrayed. For every book or show recommendation, for every conversation where I brought him up as one of my personal heroes. I was almost in mourning, I realise that now, and I'm pretty sure my cynicism levelled up as a direct consequence of that experience.

Fast forward to last week or so, where my RSS feed pings with an article from his blog, the first since the scandal began. He's pointing to a journalist investigation that seems to say the whole thing was a hatchet job. He tries to explain, and this being Neil, the words line up and do his bidding. And I want to fucking believe him, I do. But I can't.

The absolute worst thing? In spite of everything, I hope he's really telling the truth. How does that make any fucking sense?

  • Here's a virtual hug from a stranger. May the road ahead be smoother and more fulfilling, mate.

  • Except for Pompeii

  • Is this Bialetti's redneck cousin or what?

  • Whenever I see dates like this I do the math in my head almost on reflex.

Man, dad died at 43, that must have been heartbreaking. Makes me wonder about the story behind the author.

  • I'm surprised he wasn't replaced by Alexa.

  • Nothing to see here, just Bill making sure he's either going to swim by himself or sink with the lot of 'em. My current prediction is: absolutely nothing will continue to happen.

  • Cannolis inna cannoli 🤌

  • Maybe there should be quality criteria for what constitutes an idea worth discussing. Not every social media post is an idea.

  • Inside of you there are two wolves. Yesterday and Today.

  • You mean a tide locked planet, as in, one side of the planet would always face the star? The Moon does this with respect to the Earth, so yes, it is possible.

If you mean no spinning around the star, then no. The orbital equilibrium is given by the attraction force between the planet and the star being countered by the centrifugal force of the planet spinning around the sun. If the planet were to slow down, it would move closer to the star. If it would stop, it would eventually fall into the star.

  • They will all throw those Bombardiers away and buy a bunch of Boeings, for sure.

    /s, but I feel it's rather unnecessary.
