    Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is Donald Trump’s pick to run the Department of Health and Human Services, recently called Trump’s diet “poison.” On Saturday, he was photographed on Trump’s plane eating McDonald’s with the president-elect and his inner circle.

    “The stuff that he eats is really, like, bad,” he said. “Campaign food is always bad, but the food that goes onto that airplane is, like, just poison. You have a choice between — you don’t have the choice, you’re either given KFC or Big Macs. That’s, like, when you’re lucky, and then the rest of the stuff I consider kind of inedible.”

    TL;DR Trump is doing what he always does. Making those around him bend the knee and embarrass themselves as a display of power. No sympathy for RFK here, that piece of shit knew what he signed up for… or at least the brain worms did.

But several years ago the media latched onto a well established term from “internet culture” without understanding (or perhaps caring) what it was actually describing, and decided that it meant ridiculing something on social media.     In 1954, as The Betty White Show became national across the United States, White was criticized by many in the Southern states for having Arthur Duncan, a Black tap dancer, on her variety show and was asked to remove him. In the 2018 documentary Betty White: First Lady of Television, White recalled threats to take the show off-air "if we didn't get rid of Arthur, because he was Black." She refused, saying "he stays, live with it".

  • Bluesky is like the Fediverse equivalent of bumper bowling. Don't get me wrong, there's definitely a place for it, and it's better than staying on Twitter, but I do hope it ends up being just a stepping stone for people to get comfortable before taking off the guard rails and moving on to actual federated services like Mastodon or Lemmy.

  • It's strange here in the US too. I don't know anyone that has a problem with that. That kind of puritanical attitude about drinking is not the prevailing sentiment here. Sure, my friends and I aren't getting plastered at BBQ's like we did in college, but it's not like we aren't having some beers at a cookout just because half of us have kids now. It's just a vocal religious minority making a lot of noise. Don't get me wrong, this country does have a different, more uptight, relationship with alcohol than Europe, but it's not nearly as extreme as it may appear online and in media.
