  • That looks fantastic!

  • Facebook is a cancer on society. Deleting and walking away five years ago felt amazing. And ya know what? It still does too! Because the only time I hear about Facebook these days is when they're caught doing some new bullshit.

  • Dammmn that takes me back! I had a subscription to their magazine in high school in the early 2000s. HOLY CRAP they're still selling the Corporate America flag too! Seeing all those tech company logos on the modern version makes me feel so old though... Shit.

  • Some poser hands me cake at a birthday party, whatchu want me to do with this, eat it?

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE GROUND!

  • Lol thank you for making that, I had that meme in mind while I was writing that reply.

  • I mean, I do have RGB lights but it's not because I'm a software engineer. I'm just a dork.

  • Same here. My cat's only about 9 months old (adopted at 4mo) but so far he's been good about keeping the rough housing down to light nipping and grabbing me without claws. Accidents happen of course, but every cat I've had in my life has had a similar temperament during playtime.

  • I feel like Bluesky is always going to be the fediverse with training wheels. And as you pointed out, these folks aren’t using Twitter, so that’s a good start. All we can do is hope one day these people will start exploring the full range of opportunities available to them in the actual fediverse.

  • I do, and I think it’s just kinda “okay”. The main thing I like about Bluesky right now is the experimental “threaded mode” which makes following conversations a lot easier for me. I’ve always been more of a Reddit kinda guy than a Twitter user so nested/threaded comments are preferable.

Having said that, as far as microblogging platforms go, I find mastodon in conjunction with the smart lists feature on the Mammoth app for iOS to be a much better resource for following news and finding interesting accounts.

  • "Constantly" is a ridiculous exaggeration, it's rare and it's not some random nagging prompt or anything. It's tied to software updates wherein the list of default search engines Firefox suggests in preferences is also updated.

Why did my search engine change?

From time to time, Mozilla may update the list of search engines that are available in Firefox or set as default in specific regions. If your default search engine is changed, you'll receive a notification in Firefox so you can further customize your default search settings.

If you received a notification that your default search engine has changed after updating Firefox, you can keep the new default or set a search engine of your choice.

  • “I get it. My affiliation with a people search business may look odd from the outside,” Shelest’s statement reads. “In truth, if I hadn’t taken that initial path with a deep dive into how people search sites work, Onerep wouldn’t have the best tech and team in the space. Still, I now appreciate that we did not make this more clear in the past and I’m aiming to do better in the future.”

Who better to fix the problem than me, it’s creator!” He’s not exactly wrong, it is possible to reform and become an industry leader combating the issue you were once guilty of doing yourself. There are countless examples of that throughout the history of the tech space. However, you absolutely cannot hide that kind of background if you are looking to operate in the privacy and cybersecurity sectors. Doing so is incredibly shady and not the behavior of someone who’s turned white hat.

Mozilla had no option but to walk away immediately and I’m glad they did. They can’t afford to have this stink on their reputation. It’s unfortunate that this information’s only come to light now though.

  • Which is why they’re now under investigation from the FCC.

Ummm, no, they aren’t. They’re under investigation by the FTC for their deal that allows Google to train AI on user content. The FCC is not conducting the inquiry and it has nothing to do with these ads.

It’s really annoying that people can just make things up and it gets upvoted because nobody actually reads the damn articles.

  • Two of my favorite things. Cats and The Simpsons. Now that’s what I call a cromulent post!

  • Yep, I do the same. I opted out of all 20ish email comm options on that shithole site so it’s just straight up spam.

  • Yeah, they kept sending me emails begging me to invest. Reddit’s IPO is a fucking clown car headed toward a cliff.

  • Putin: If anyone joins NATO there will be dire consequences!

Sweden: Du är inte lika stark som du luktar dumjävel

  • Oscar the Grouch's living situation is basically aspirational now. "You can afford to live in a trash can all by yourself? Like, no roommates or anything? Wow!"
