  • Articles like these price why this country needs the CBC. Keeping politicians honest while providing fair and balanced reporting is an indispensable task needed to keep the populace informed and democracy working as intended.

  • I was indeed gonna remark that people seem to have forgotten who made attacking science and scientists that don't fit the party narrative acceptable again in the first place...this is a page Trump took out of Harper's playbook, not the other way around.

  • If only Trump's core supporting demographic were educated enough to both get the reference and the joke...

  • Flavor-aid actually, but in this case who cares so long as the solution is the same.

  • What the fuck? I know it's Donald Dump, but despite all the insanity happening since his inauguration this is the first headline that manages to surprise even me. Dude's talking about annexing Canada and Greenland on one hand, but then bows to the former UK colonial project? What?

GG Trump, I honestly did not see this one coming.

  • While you may be right, I still want to make sure the Finns get credit for naming these home made petrol bombs since the origin of the name is just so badass.

  • I refuse to believe that tweet is real on principal, but it's just tone deaf enough to have me question whether this might have actually been shat out by a corporate marketing team as part of some greenwashing effort.

If this is someone memeing however: Kudos, this one is very convincing despite being wildly ridiculous.

  • "Would you like your evil done in the traditional overt bombs-dropped-on-children fashion, or the new we'll-sell-your-entire-life-to-the-highest-bidder-while-feeding-you-non-stop-lies-to-establish-a-fascist-regime style, sir?"

This guy: Bomb some kids, at least it's a spectacle.

(Edit for clarification: I think both are bad, and one has a strong causal relationship with the other but I am not sure I would pick Raytheon personally. It's a bit too overtly evil for my tastes)

  • That's what I'm thinking reading this and other articles. It's like the Republican party is reaching to find increasingly desperate ways to get into Trump's graces, to the point that it feels like they're running out of ideas by this point and have started a race to the bottom debasing themselves for his amusement.

How does this man hold so much sway over them? He has the charisma of a wet rag, the character and patience if a toddler, and the long term vision of a house fly. Out of all the things I read about him and his cult, this is the one thing that baffles me the most.

  • Found the Canadian. "It's never a war crime the first time".

  • There is a minimum required amount of bronzer you're required to apply to be accepted into the MAGA leadership. See also the transformation Ron DeSantis pulled.

  • It's not impossible to understand Danish as a Swede but it's different enough in terms of sounds, grammar, maths, etc. that it's indeed like an uncanny valley. It's close enough at first glance, but then gets really alien when you start to pay attention to it. It's like catching snippets of a conversation in otherwise white noise.

I have worked in Denmark too, and share your friend's experience - both sides default to English.

  • Accurate though. Danish sounds legit like super drunk Swedish at a distance, and uncanny valley up close to anyone speaking Swedish or Norwegian or German.

  • Thanks for sharing this. I didn't really vibe with it initially, but this cover has really grown on me. Miley doesn't hit the same high notes as Debbie but she puts a lot of power behind it and gives the song an entirely different vibe as a result. She's really singing her heart out here, and it shows.

  • I had heard that T-Pain's cover was good but never heard it myself until just now. Not only did he absolutely kill it, but the guitarist went off too. Great performance that honours the original.

  • I'm not sure if I'd agree on it being better than the original, but it does manage to keep the energy of the original while making the whole thing heavier.

  • Holy cow, that's one way to honor a band's legacy. I'm not surprised it moved Plant to tears. Can you imagine sitting there, seeing this immense spectacle and going "Holy shit, we inspired all these people"? Must be mind blowing.

  • Thanks for adding that comment. I do recall reading about this somewhere but I forgot to add her as the original artist.

That said, listening to the cover by Manson it's pretty clear he's primarily inspired by Soft Cell's version of the song.
