"...could've made it but it's cozy in the rut..."

  • Everyone suggests Peertube here, yet nobody uses it.

I think the biggest problem is that it's not integrated nicely. Only Piefed and maybe some Lemmy apps have an embedded player, which allows you to play the video without leaving the site. But most people will still have to open the link in a new tab, which is especially inconvenient on mobile apps. When I see a Peertube link, most of the time I don't even bother opening it. Another issue is that if you want to upload a video, you first have to find a good instance and then create an account to do so.

And even then, OP was looking for a site that allows direct linking (which would play natively in every app), something that Peertube does not allow. And most of the sites he mentioned, allow uploading without an account.

So I think that Peertube is not a good suggestion here. At least not yet.

  • Yeah it sucks, and you cannot get good search results anywhere. Not that you have many different options anyways...

Lemmy search is only searching for exact text you searched for. There is somewhat useful option to search only post titles.

Piefed search at least has some filters (nsfw, post type, instance software, minimum score...) and search operators (and, or, not...) but it doesn't have the search only post titles option.

Sometimes searching in google and just appending "lemmy" to your query will give surprisingly good result and sometimes it will return nothing.

Searxng has the search !bang for lemmy posts !lepo, which gives more or less the same results as lemmys search.

  • croc

    https://github.com/schollz/croc

    Send files over the internet.

It's a small (several MB) CLI tool, that you download and run on both devices (sending and receiving one)Type croc send [file(s)-or-folder] , you get the code phrase that you send to the person receiving the file.On receiving device you type croc code-phrase and the file starts transferring.

End-to-end encrypted, and no need for port forwarding since it's sent over the relay (you can even host your own relay).

  • Oh, I never knew that about their beaks, very interesting.

She does look like she is prepared to kill someone hahah

  • How viable would that be? Can it also just run in the background like the actual app?

  • Would it be possible to run Syncthing in Termux?

  • Oh shit. What do now.

  • I think you might have downloaded a fake Newpipe...

  • I use Linkding too, it's very light and it's great, I only wish it had the exclude tag filter and no tag filter. That would make it perfect.

  • Just a smoother and faster experience. No dead links, no slow downloads, no files that are separated into multiple parts...You get a VPN and you don't have to worry about "getting caught". Private trackers just further elevate that experience and get you access to better content.

  • I'd lose that one day after buying it.

  • One trick for a better fingerprint recognition is to set 2+ fingers but scan only one finger for all of them.

This may or may not also increase the likelihood of someone else succesfully unlocking your phone with their own fingerprint.

  • I finally made a full switch from Sync to Thunder, because even though I know that Sync dev does take huge breaks and he comes back and fixes everything and makes the app even better, I still wanted to make sure I find a good alternative and get familiar with it just in case.

Thunder is a really good app, especially considering its age. It also has the most features and the nicest UI (IMO) among the Lemmy apps. And it being open source is a huge plus too.

Sync is still my favorite, it just feels really nice to use, but I'll stay on Thunder for now.

Voyager is also a really nice app that feels polished and works smoothly, but it's lacking certain features that I like. So I keep it installed as a backup but I don't use it often.

  • I kinda started using lemmy less lately. I shall fix that!

  • That's cool! What software are you using for drawing/animation?

  • ShizuTools allows you to run ADB command through intents, which means that you can use Tasker (or other similar app) to run the ADB reboot command. I tested this part and it works. The problem is that you would need to start Shizuku manually after each restart.Searching TaskerNet for shizuku, I was able to find some projects that can start shizuku for you, although I haven't tried them out.

So, it does seem possible, but with quite a bit of setup.
