  • Not to mention a truck trip away compared to a truck run to get to a train to get to a ship that unloads to a train that unloads to a truck to get to its destination.

  • There was nothing in the parent comment about Israel or Gaza either but here we all are.

  • Slogans and cancelling Prime for a few years isn't going to stop the US from rolling over us, militarily or economically if they really want. It's great everyone is willing to fight a 30 year insurgency but who wants that. I'll be dead before seeing any kind of Canada again. Yes I selfishly want the chance at retirement I was promised my whole life. I don't want a war if it can be avoided.

Anytime I bring up that this time is the last time Canada can build nukes with at least some plausible deniability that they aren't aimed at the US, I'm told they'll never allow it and it's immoral and it's not the Canadian way. It's the only chance to hold off an American threat for long enough to get through this but apparently hardly any Canadians want them. So negotiation is the only way. And we're not strong enough or unified enough to force our hand. Time is needed to forge new alliances and firm trade partners.

Carney was always a compromise to stave off a horrible outcome. No one is going to be happy. The right didn't win, the left can't get what they want and the middle has to scrape and fight to just maintain some of what we have. Nowhere near enough people want what the NDP is selling. Too many in the centre were dismissed, or called racist, or misogynistic, or homophobic, or fascist or whatever for veering from the party line. So too many gave up or just turned right just to feel like they'd get something.

The way this country over reacts to any kind news, real, exaggerated, contrived or just out and planted by agitators is so fucking disheartening.

  • I'm sure you used the same logic in regards to that Trudeau fellow who was so popular a few months back. His name seemed to be on everybody's lips, many rightwingers seemed to fervently want to have sex with him.

  • It's entertaining. Funny and has heart.

  • Yes, but the question is why. Is it based on logic based reasons or due to the misinformation campaign? Because they think the current Conservatives will actually do anything to make substantial changes to address these issues or because idiots like Rogan and Mcleary tell them to hate the other side? Is it because they're not getting enough or just because someone else is getting something?

It's not like anybody is going to start building thousands of $500000+ houses and selling them at cost to the middle class. The only thing the feds would do to address housing would be to build low cost housing again. I can imagine how that would go over with the crowd we're talking about

  • I've lived in a small rural prairie riding all my life. It's been not conservative one term in the last 40-50 years. The people who complain the most about Canada being broken are the ones who have owned their houses since the 90's and worked the same jobs for pretty much as long and have the health care system all their long lives and starting to collect cpp even while continuing to work, as long as it doesn't put them too much into the next tax bracket. They can't really explain how Canada is broken for them, beyond talking points. They can't really explain what they think Conservatives will do to fix the things they don't really know are wrong. They just vote conservative because liberal bad. The fuck Carney signs came out the day after he was confirmed as Liberal party leader. There was no time to formulate a hate for him, it was immediately implemented mindlessly

  • So because they're willing to say anything to get elected they're a better option? What have the conservatives actually done in the last 30 years to help working class Canadians? Are we supposed to suddenly trust them now that they realize they have to have actual policies instead of just 'hate this one guy'? Are we meant to ignore decades of Polivere's voting record?

  • They'll be praising him for how good the stuff is that they scavenged from their neighbours burnt out homes. And saying how nice it is not to have mortgage payments on the cave they live in
