I wouldn't call it utopian what they were describing, while anarchism to me sounds more utopian. Without the power to defend yourselves, the power of capitalists, current, former, or foreign will destroy you.

  • So for a concrete example, if you end up in the worker coop for a finance company and own a slice of that, or work in Microsoft and are an employee-owner of that, you'd end up a lot better than if you worked in a fast food restaurant you partly owned. Is that kind of what you're saying?

  • It sounds like it's similar to saying climate change isn't real because the weather was colder one day, when in actuality the theory of global warming is describing an ongoing process and tendency of the temperature to increase in the overall system overall long period of time, it's not a day to day weather phenomenon you can describe with a singular slice of time.

  • There were some things she did early in the primary that kind of inspired me tbh. I really liked the Walz VP pick, especially when it looked like she was going to pick a more conservative Dem like Shapiro the Zionist or Mark Kelly. She also had a more youthful energy to contrast against Biden's clearly aging and tired energy during his campaign. But then they squandered it by listening to the consultants and focus groups trying to triangulate to get Haley Republicans or whatever they were trying to do.

  • IDF has lied about command centers below hospitals forever and continue to do so. Their word means less than nothing. If he was killed in the hospital, it's because he was getting treatment. If he was under the hospital it's because tunnels are everywhere throughout Gaza because it's the only wait to move or go anywhere without getting bombed and killed. The area is super concentrated and full of people because Israel keeps taking land and rounding them in smaller and smaller areas, like a concentration camp.

    And if killing civilians is okay if they're mixing with soldiers, then Israel deserves a thousand October 7th's. They killed dozens more, including wounded, children, and pregnant to get one guy in this one attack. Comparing that that to the hundreds of thousands Israel has killed and virtually everyone in it being an IDF member or supporting of them, then the state itself and every genocidal piece of shit in it needs to die in the same hell fire they're raining on Gazans. This is your twisted logic.

  • Biden didn't do enough to stop it? Dude, he actively facilitated it. He gave them weapons and money, including fast tracking a bunch, vetoed any resolution to help at the UN, criticized the ICJ and ICC for trying to hold them accountable, etc. Trump is just continuing Biden's genocidal legacy with the Trumpian twist of wanting to take the land and turn it into hotels and resorts.

    It should be in the Channel 4 streaming service you'd think, but it isn't for some reason. It's actually a great example of the role piracy has to play in archiving media and data.

  • There's a channel 4 documentary that sounded interesting from just a couple years ago, like 2022 or something like that, that I can't seem to find where Prue from The Great British Bake-Off is tracking down the family of her adopted child (I watch a lot of GBBO, hence why it sounded interesting). It's so recent and Prue is so famous in the UK, I am surprised how difficult it has been to track down.

  • I blame a lot of the problems on The Third Way Democrats, like Clinton. Basically they tried to take Republican talking points and the Republicans just went more right. It's also when we got policies like NAFTA which destroyed US manufacturing, emptied a lot of rural and working-class areas, and weakened the Dems connection to labor.

    But like you said, we can keep going back and back, to the US reliance on capitalists and imperialism that made these policies inevitable, the failures of Reconstruction, or the compromises made with slave holders back with the founding fathers, etc.

  • Biden had years to get a ceasefire done and never once demanded it. You can't deny that. The only reason Trump was able to interfere is because Biden took forever, and there was no reason to take the Biden deal because they knew what they would get with Biden - absolute freedom to do whatever they wanted and he wouldn't do anything if they slow rolled it out interfered with the deal. The Biden admin made that obvious and Israel here has confirmed it. The ceasefire failing is awful but we would have never got one in the first place if Biden was still President. And the genocide has lways been escalating. They were already restricting aid during Biden, that's why they tried to do that stupid pier thing that failed, even though they could have demanded Israel open up the roads for aid trucks. It's always been steadily increasing in more destruction, less aid, more dead journalists, more dead UNRWA and other aid workers, etc. It's the same deal as before just in a Trumpian instead of Biden fashion.
