  • My guess is a mix of a) techbros like Zuck pushing it because more regulation always makes it easier for big companies who can quickly comply with new laws unlike smaller competitors, b) all governments being run by people 60+ who grew up believing the internet is scary and needs to be regulated as much as possible and c) rising right-wing parties who hope to use that surveillance infrastracture for their goals once in power.

  • Hot tea with honey (there are plenty of herbs that will help like chamomile). Slowly sucking on a spoonful of honey also helps with a sore throat. I also find it helps to move from the bed to the couch because I'll get sick of the bed and the bedroom and being in the livingroom changes things up. Also hot showers and changing the pyjama. Just anything that makes me feel like I'm not marinating in my bed 24/7.

  • No, actually she worked on one of Kamala Harris' campaigns and proudly wears the campaign tshirt. Which is why her attitude confused me so much. I'm not sure what's going on with her other than that even a well educated American can still have a lot of indoctrination and believe the American way is always the best way.

  • Oh no, who could have ever seen that coming?

Now wait for the subscription service to get rid of ads on the fridge you bought and "own". Oh, and that neat thing they do with cars now where you have to subscribe to get certain feature? That's also next. "Only 5$ 10$ 20$ per month to keep your fridge cool enough so the milk won't spoil! It's not a normal function of the fridge, it's our super special anti-bacterial option that costs extra.

  • Why? She thinks it should be more in favor of the man and he should be able to easily up and leave anytime after finding out the kid isn't his.

  • I have a good American friend here in Germany who has a great chance of getting a permanent status and later citizenship. She's already pretty good at German after 2 years and was offered a permanent local contract. She told me last week she's probably not taking the offer and going back to the US because she earns more and pays less taxes there. I asked about healthcare cost and all she talked about was how contraception was completely free in her american insurance and she has a copay here, how much less taxes she paid and she didn't like how the German law handles paternity issues (it's harder to get out of your obligations if your wife cheated and the kid isn't yours).

It was so weird. So many American women wish they were in her position and all she talked about was going back to the US due to paternity laws and the 10€ copay on her contraception which made her really angry for some reason.

  • Rai 雷 ist der Blitz. Pikachu ist Bling-fieps und Raichu ist Blitz-Fieps.

    Oder Blingblinghörnchen und Blitzhörnchen.

  • Umgekehrt: "pikapika" heißt sowas wie "blingbling". Sterne machen "pikapika".

  • I switched careers from logistics (office) to IT a couple of years ago. Logistics was notoriously badly paid and it was hard to find a job that's not temporary for a year amd then they throw you out. Everybody kept telling us for years to go to IT, because that's where the money and the non-temporary contracts are.... But that's only true for people who've worked there for decades.

It really does feel like no field is left where you can have a stable career. Accounting, sales, hospital, no matter where you ask, it's temp contracts and shitty wages.

  • I just found one I like and bought 10 of it.

  • I mean have you ever been a tourist in France? I went to Paris last year and I would have been lost without google translate. The french expect even the tourists to just learn their language.

  • I don't anymore. I don't know a single page that is reliable. On google even three star reviews get removed, so good reviews are meaningless.

  • Der Artikel ist von September, aber ich bin gerade darüber gestolpert. Es hat mich nicht wirklich überrascht, leider. Ich kenne genug chronisch Kranke und habe selber immer wieder mit Problemen zu kämpfen.

  • Ragebait content has also increased. Most stories are made up to increase engagement with over-the-top problems. You can find some normal questions if you sort by new and they will have a handful of answers and soon disappear. The posts that get a lot of engagement are the ones with crazy stories.

  • I'm German and when I was in elementary school in the 90s we learned about the Nazi regime. An old woman visited our class to talk about what is was like for her as a child under Hitler. I remember that she said some people just disappeared and noone really knew why. There were rumours about prisons or labor camps but noone knew for sure what happened to the people who disappeared. She only learned about the concentration camps after the war was over.

I bet in a decade or so we will learn about all the horrors that are really going on right now.

  • Relationsships with several people have been around in a lot of cultures all over the world. Harems have existed through all time periods. The main problem in the past was ensuring paternity so it was usually one man with several women. The bible has several examples of men taking multiple women, in many islamic societies taking multiple wives is ok, in Nepal one woman could have several men.

Of course relationships have mostly been formed by economic necessities, not considerations of sexual preference. A woman might have several husbands in a place where living conditions are rough and it takes a lot of manpower for one household. A man may have many wives where men often die from wars and the women need to be taken care of. If these rules are kept for hundreds or even thousands of years, can you still call them a phase?

Besides you must not forget that the western view on history has been heavily shaped by christian values. Obvious proof that people were homo-/bisexual in the past was reinterpreted, the same goes for any form of open/poly relationship. "They were roommates" has become a meme for a reason.

  • Assuming things turns back, there will be a lot to rebuild in matter of trust and commerce.

I'm not so sure about that. The US has proven that they'll make a 180° turn on anything within just the blink of an eye. Even if the US turns back, there'll be no guarantee it won't elect the next batshit crazy person as president four years later.

  • Aren't these the kind of people who'd get mad at immigrants in the US if they don't speak English? Why don't they learn proper Russian and integrate?
