  • A common one in German is Erdbeerwoche (strawberry week).

  • That's OK when it comes to to personality but I think there are certain non-negotiable things that can be checked via the profile.

Wants Kids yes/no Wants Marriage yes/no OK with smoking or not

These are things that need to be checked early on either way or else the relationship won't work out.

  • Well, that's nothing anyone can just provide you with. You'd need to do your research, maybe ask around in relevant expat communities. Check if your country of choice needs people with your skill set. What I can tell you is that I know many expats who come on a tourist visa to job hunt, usually stay longer with a student visa and learn German in language schools and then try to get a job from there. It does require quite a lot of funds though.

  • What would help look like? I could answer questions, help practice the language etc. But otherwise what could anyone do? I can't give you a job or a visa. My apartment isn't big enough to house someone. There just isn't too much us normal people can do.

  • Yea, many definitely just swipe and a lot don't even look at the profile after the match. Sometimes I got stupid answers like "I don't read profiles, I'll just ask you directly". Which is OK if you want to get a conversation going, but really stupid when it comes to the basics.

"Do you like weed, I smoke weed a lot." "....it says on my profile that I hate any kind of smoke, weed or tobacco, and that I'd never date someone who smokes. You could have saved us both the 3 days of writing if you'd read my profile and not swiped on me..."

  • Ich spiele gerade Gris auf der Switch und es ist wirklich wunderschön. Die Bilder, die Musik, alles einfach nur verträumt. Ich habe echt selten so ein visuell interessantes Spiel gespielt.

  • It originally was but many people look for relationship on tinder and when I used it there was the option to say if you were looking for a hookup or something serious.

  • I tried tinder once 8 years ago when I moved to a new city. Quickly deleted it. Basically every swipe was a match but then the men would not answer, eventually unmatched without ever answering or immediately text something sexual. Oh and so many "my profile says X but actually...." I think I met with three guys over the course of three month or so and they all tried to pressure me into having sex on the first or second date. One even mocked me for thinking any man would look for anything other than quick sex on tinder.

So it was pretty horrible and I felt mostly unsafe with the guys I met so I quickly stopped using it. I think it's a horrible way to meet people.

  • Men just want this simplistic life with no amenities. No bed just a mattress, cheap canned food, cheapest tshirts bought in packs of 50 and so on. I'm sure there are people who genuinely like that, but a lot of the times I find it so sad when men think they can't treat themselves. And often if they just tried finding out what is a good product for them they'd find that it solves a lot of their problems.

One example: my husband told me when we met that he didn't like to go to the pool because he was very self-concious about his unclean skin and lots of akne. He was also using any cheap soap he saw at a shop. I did some research for him and we tried some medical shower gels and just a few month later his skin had cleaned up completely. He isn't even someone who buys into this manliness-stuff, but I think society just never suggested to him that as a man he could care about what soap he buys and put any thought into it. For him it was just a fact of life that he had bad skin and he was sad that it kept him from going to the pool or sauna, but he kind of accepted it as his fate. Because somehow trying to feel good and care for your body is still coded female outside of some fitness/bodybuilder etc bubbles.

He has since also found out that investing some research and money into the right mattress and bed base helps against his back pain that he had before also kind of just accepted.

  • This is going to get some confused posts from pen&paper rpg nerds 😆. My first thought was it's about rpgs.

  • I'm German and I can tell you you will hardly make a living teaching English in Germany. I used to work as a languagr instructor. The language schools don't pay you nearly enough to live and to teach at a regular school you need to have a univerity degree in education. Institutions that pay you enough always require a relevant university degree like ESL or education. If you want to come here, I'd highly suggest you look into different jobs.
