  • It doesn’t replace bike trips, as one of my colleagues observed. It replaces car trips.

The most important quote in the article! And also the section about towing a heavy load up steep hills on a normal bike, feeling like you're gonna throw up, and then driving a car everywhere on 5.40/gal gas.

An ebike is a replacement for all of that.

  • IDK about you, but my ebike weighs 60lbs. Turn the motor off, and I get way more of a workout than my 38lb full sus mountain bike.

Though I use an ebike as a car replacement, I find biking everywhere has gotten me into significantly better shape, even though it is electric. It can also tow a lot more gear up hills than my standard bike!

  • You joke, but the Romans actually did that for extremely evil people that they worried might come back, Gannon-style.

In fact, they burned the body, slammed it with 41 nails, bent so nobody could get up, then sealed it with heavy bricks and mortar, highly unusual at the time (expensive) and buried far from town.

  • That would smell so bad.

  • We played the fuck out of elite dangerous. Still do, sometimes. But during the pandemic when even the outdoors were largely shut down, and it was snowing sideways... I'm getting close to 1,100 hours too.

  • Get a good cast iron pan! I've used multiple glass tools and never had an issue :)

I use the Lodge pans, but you can pick up a used cast iron pan from a secondhand store and skip the breaking in process.

  • Pacific Drive has amazing music. So good that I started following some of the bands behind it. The Smoky Brights are a new favorite of mine.

  • So....how does this work if your company uses VPNs to tunnel to clients to securely access and maintain data? Are you just fucked?

How does this work if you fly out to a Michigan client and you need to securely connect to servers in a farm out at your employer in a different state or province?

  • At one point, I got into indigenous history. Super interesting stuff, but I had to laugh when I read that they landed in a "new" area. They colonized the shit out of it and the poor mini-humans living there, and had a caste system that was apparently pretty brutal (no social mobility, low caste men were used as human sacrifices). Land was distributed for everyone, and nobody "owned" the land, but when a chief died, everyone got their lands redistributed by the new chief and his cabinet, despite it being "everyone's land".

Eventually the people had a massive war and collected all the power into one region, euro-style.

Then, Europeans came and colonized the shit out of them, such is the circle of life. Elsewhere in our region, a separate indigenous group practiced slavery, and would enslave people from raids far and wide too. Until they too were dommed by Europeans.

Anyways, this appears to be a serious chink in humanity's armor, and it allows us to do some terrible things to each other (See Russia's invasion and systematic slaughter of civilians in Bucha). It appears to be a crime of indifference and opportunity. We've apparently been taking each other's shit since people apparently had shit to take. :/

  • I'd try a bath as a last resort. You'd need the highest concentration isopropyl alcohol you could find, like 90%+. I'd also recommend removing any plastic parts and disassemble the metal backing. If things are soldered or glued together, I might not chance it, as moisture could stay trapped inside.

  • If it were me, I'd probably replace the switches if that's an option. Isopropyl bath could work, but I doubt you'll be able to fully remove the tar. It's like that dust mixed with grease that kitchens sometimes get.

  • Seems rich coming from a wealthy, disabled politician. Sure, god doesn't provide sack lunches to poor kids, but he apparently does hand out wheelchairs, ADA ramps, elevators and door buttons to you?

Don't slam the door in other's faces. There's a reason why traditional America did things like the ADA and EPA.

  • They'll have to do a lot more than their latest stunts.

  • Damn, stole 7.7m, fined $35k and sentenced to 5 months in prison.

  • It's actually a very unique city worth visiting. It's just become crushed to death by tourists like many national parks, galleries, destinations, etc.

  • Nope, my current phone isn't even water resistant. It loses resistance over time anyways, so IDC.

  • Oh God, it looks like the BoTW motorcycle and empty world. Nintendo really needs to dial back open worlds and make them much smaller. I've been less than impressed with their 2017+ 3D open world games.

    Too big and empty.
