  • That's how I read this, too. The government isn't a monolith that just agrees with every law they have to follow. They do have to follow the law until it is challenged, though. Hopefully courts in KS knock this down.

    1. A quick search brings up nothing with ICE and "warheads" so it doesn't appear to be "widely reported". Can you give evidence for your claims?
    2. I didn't say that the article is making unsubstantiated claims. I said that you are. The article is substantiated, it just isn't all that surprising that ICE is spending more on weaponry as they hire more agents.
    3. The story says nothing about slush funds or anything beyond ICE spending more on weaponry.
    4. You are posting in a public forum. That is explicitly asking for conversation and feedback, even if you didn't directly ask me for mine. If you don't want people to respond, don't post.
  • Raw Story already stretches the truth for clicks. You're here just making completely unsubstantiated claims. They are doing more than enough heinous shit without people mudding the waters with lies.

In response to the article itself, which references a 360% increase in weapons spending, ICE more than doubled the number of agents it employs. I wish they wouldn't, but they seem to think that all of these untrained traitors need weapons. It makes sense that they would have a massive increase in weapons purcheses to outfit the new traitors and the future traitors they're hoping to hire.

This is a non-story for the most part and you don't need to add lies to it.

  • Given what it has done to the rest of the tech industry, I'm surprised it wasn't a net negative. High costs for basic compute needs must be hurting other companies.

  • Norwegians have much easier access to ski resorts than most Americans. In fact, many Americans who want to compete move to places like Colorado and California to have reasonable access. From a quick search, Oslo has similar access to ski resorts as Denver. If I had to guess, though, they're less expensive and more easily accessed by public transit.

Winter sports are also just more popular in Norway. I think this is for pretty obvious climatologial and historic reasons.

  • I haven't really looked at Facebook in a long time but also haven't deleted my account because I do use Facebook marketplace sometimes.

I just logged in and looked. I actually saw no AI generated content except the few examples that were posted by people I know. I'm sure other's experiences are different, but the algorithm isn't feeding me slop for some reason.

  • And you think land lords won't pass increased property taxes on to their tenants?

I don't live in NYC so I won't give an opinion on this but landlords won't just eat increased taxes.

  • I'd be willing to bet that all news that doesn't involve right wing nut jobs screwing up various countries has dropped by 14%.

  • Age and term limits for congress, please!

  • How have I never heard of this? In the digital age the 4th amendment really means nothing...

  • Not that I disbelieve you but, source please?

  • I'm not trying to be snarky here. I'm just struggling with how to make this not sounds snarky.

You're incorrect. You would be correct for any other workers but federal employees are different. I was a federal employee and have witnessed those differences first-hand. The TSA is absolutely required to continue working without pay. If you search for info on it, there are many articles discussing this issue every time there is a shutdown. For example.

  • ICE has $75B on-hand from the "Big Bogus Bill" and is still operating as normal including continuing to pay agents and staff. Other DHS agencies, like the TSA, are shut down but many people are required to continue working without pay because they are "essential".

  • She actually said "The DOW is over fifty thousand do... I don't know why you're laughing!" it sounded like she was going to say "fifty thousand dollars" but got side tracked mid word.

  • They'll still cave. Also, ICE already has $75B in hand to work with. They won't be impacted by the shutdown at all. Unlike the TSA, ICE will still get paid for working.

  • She's not saying they can't use the word "Swift". She is objecting to the specific logo they have chosen. It looks remarkably similar to her signature, which is trademarked. Both are shown in the article.

I don't care one way or another about Taylor Swift except that she has too much money. I think she is right in this case. The logo really could create brand confusion because of the similarity between their proposed logo and her signature.

  • As the guy whose comment you added to, thanks for pointing out podman kube play. I've ever used it before and it looks worth playing with. It's a bit limited in terms of what resources it can create if you're used to k8s, but it definitely looks useful for testing and quickly standing up simple apps.

  • Kubernetes has a hell of a learning curve. Once you get your head around it, it can be great but it is a huge lift to learn. For self hosting I'd lean towards docker-compose rather than kubernetes but kubernetes can be nice once you get past the super steep learning curve.

    To answer your questions:

    1. Any Linux flavor will do the job.
    2. No, windows doesn't really play nice with containers to begin with. Kubernetes is another layer of complexity that will make it tough.
    3. Yep, definitely! This is typically done using helm charts. Helm is basically the package manager for kubernetes. There are many helm charts that you can just install into kubernetes and they'll work for you. You can also roll your own if you have custom applications. Argocd can also be helpful depending on how deep you want to get.
    4. I'd start by looking into videos on helm charts. That said, you will need a very strong understanding of docker containers and may need a good understanding of networking.

I would strongly recommend looking into deployment using docker-compose over kubernetes until you understand containers inside and out. While Kubernetes can be nice it akso adds another layer of difficulty. I say this as someone who uses kubernetes daily for work, uses off the shelf helm charts, and writes their own helm charts from scratch.

  • Trump has the thinnest skin of anyone alive. The comments that Hess made were extremely tame. Any other politician would just ignore his comments and move on but Trump has to be a baby. Only a loser could possibly dislike some of what Trump does; an Olympic-class loser.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

What would you have done? White guy observing anti-black racism.
