This is what I ended up doing. Keeps it in the older untarnished state, things still work fine. Telemetry hadn’t been added yet

8·2 months agoThis is the key. If someone shares something that may have the attribution missing or is too jpg, the post link can be edited to the better version.
If users are posting too many comics that are missing attribution without following through to update post links to versions with them, then they’ll get the book thrown at them and won’t be allowed to post anymore.

Technology@lemmy.world•Quantum teleportation demonstrated over existing fiber networks — Deutsche Telekom’s T‑Labs used commercially available Qunnect hardware for the demo, claims 90% average accuracyEnglish
181·3 months agoSo there’s a lot of incorrect assumptions and outright wrong ideas of how quantum entanglement is going to be used in a quantum network, or even a quantum Internet.
A hard rule: information cannot be sent faster than the speed of light.
When news articles try to summarize quantum teleportation, they incorrectly imply that information is being transmitted instantly. Quantum entanglement is not intended to send information. It’s meant to act like a hash or checksum. The magic in it is it enables both sender and receiver to know that their communication has been tampered with.
It has further use with encryption, but again, it’s to facilitate the encryption. The information is still being transmitted as light through the fiber network.

21·3 months agoHumans have been doing the whole sulfur dioxide thing for decades. In 2020 cargo ships began to use fuels with less sulfur in them to reduce sulfur dioxide output. The result, was a marked increase in sea surface temperatures because the aerosols used to help block some of the sunlight.
It’s arguable to call it geoengineering as that implies purposeful engineering is ongoing. Whereas we were literally just burning sulfur rich fuels for cargo ships.
The reason people associate it with chemtrails is because sulfur dioxide is touted as a key component in the exhaust trails left behind by aircraft. While there may be trace amounts of the stuff in jet exhaust, this is not purposeful geoengineering as it’s just a byproduct of fossil fuel use. A more visible one because it’s easy to look up in the sky and see planes leaving trails compared to seeing the faint haze left behind by cargo ships in the middle of the ocean.
Cloud seeding is a thing in very small regional efforts for promoting cloud cover and even rainfall. And these are purposefully done to achieve those two outcomes. Usually they’re done near dry places that have too much sun and not enough water. Despite some of these operations taking place, their effects are miniscule when compared to the scale of global operations that aren’t trying to purposefully do any geoengineering.
Damn sign me up.
