  • Northern Netherlands, somwhere around 2,20 for E10 Euro 95, 2,30 for diesel. Diesel is not usually more expensive than petrol.

  • I think I saw a post by the admin saying there were some issues and you had to 'follow' them to get new content

  • It's a 200 IQ take, hence the need for them to use all kinds of words people don't understand speaking about people that others don't know. I read this headline seven times before coming to the conclusion it's probably pretty funny if you have any idea about its context

  • It's still very early days for all batteries that are not Li-Ion or Li-FP. Plus there's a political aspect. Some countries, like China, have invested heavily in lithium and cobalt mining, increasing influence in Africa. CATL is a big innovator in batteries, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese government pumps the brakes on CATL developing solid state or sodium on the scale of lithium.

In the end, it's inevitable because both lithium and cobalt are finite resources. Lithium especially is becoming increasingly difficult to come by. We are in need of new tech, but it could still take 10 years for it to be fully developed and adopted. What we need now is devices that just cannot be powered by lithium, so that they will require something more dense like sodium sulfur. The lack of need for graphene, cobalt and lithium is a huge pro.

  • I've said something similar on a similar part before but was quickly corrected that what looked like xitter there was actually Mastodon. I don't have either or never had so I don't know but might this be Mastodon?

  • I use Portainer.

  • Can you not see in the activity log, either of HA itself or of the device, what is causing the action to be carried out? You could go to the device and check which automations the device is part of and check their traces as well, if you have recollection of when this last happened.

If it is a backlog of stuff, maybe restart Home Assistant, or better yet, the server itself. But it shouldn't be sending those to other devices.

What's also possible is that something is up with the electricity in your home. Maybe these devices are getting power surges or cutouts and defaulting to whatever you have that Power On setting set to. I think the default setting is that devices like that go back on after power loss.

Last thing I can think of is an errant Zigbee controller. Maybe it's picking up Bluetooth or WoFi signal interference and sending garbled messages to anything that'll listen.

Or someone outside is trying to mess with you but without physical access to your Zigbee hub this is next to impossible.

  • I'd say that second one is nearing a sunk cost fallacy making it akin to cognitive dissonance. That's the term usually described in addiction and certain splurge purchases, meaning that your brain will try to reason around anything against a certain idea.

Example: I shouldn't have another drink because I still need to drive and I have got a pretty busy day tomorrow. Then again, I could always take the bus home and call in sick tomorrow. I deserve another drink because I worked hard today.

  • The name comes from what it was supposed to do, displace water. It's the 40th attempt they made to create something like that and found something that can displace moisture and lubricate. It's not technically a degreaser.

  • Yeah and even Sweden is still only about two thirds of the Netherlands. I'm aware the Netherlands is very densely populated, but these Scandinavian countries are huge compared to the Netherlands, maybe with the exception of Denmark which is similar in size.

  • This is the first time I've actually seen an estimate of the population size of Norway and I'm actually shocked there are so few Norwegians. I figured pretty much Scandinavian countries had a population of at least the Netherlands. That said I was aware that Denmark was smaller in population but that Norway has about Denmarks population is news to me.

  • The one thing that this overlay is making me realise is that there are actually some parallels here. The North and Midwest kind of seem the same type of people, same with the UK being the northwest, Iberia basically being California/Nevada and Italy being a spaghetti western country with far right tendencies.

  • I saw a headline somewhere stating that Trump was upset by the decision of the court and announced new tariffs.

I imagined him sitting in that oval office and some nerd tells him 'your tariffs have been deemed unlawful' and he just goes 'that's bullshit, who says? Tariff them' and then that nerd goes 'but sir you can't tariff the Supreme..' and then Trump farts between every word when he says 'I. Said. Tariff. Them.'

  • I was more or less forced to contribute at home. It was not just cooking, but the whole process of dinner. It started with me having to set the table, clear the table, do the dishes and when we got a dishwasher, load it. Then I also had to peel potatoes, cut vegetables. The older I got, the more responsibilities I got. At some point I had a dedicated day in the week where nobody would be able to cook for me and others would eat later than I would. These days were initially just me and my dad, so my dad showed me literally once how he made pasta bolognese. The next week, it was my turn. I was given feedback on my cooking and the next week I could try again. I kinda liked doing it so in due time, I also had to cook on another weekday. My mom would show me how she handled certain things and after a while, but the time I was 16, I could make a couple of dishes and did so at least twice a week. My sister was gearing up to be a professional athlete (sadly she never made it that far) so she rarely cooked but once she stopped her sport, she would also cook twice a week.

This is less the story of how I learned to cook and more the story of how my parents trained their servants to cook for them.

  • Don't forget bots

  • It really depends on what the original language is. I prefer to read books in their original language rather than in their translations. But as I'm only comfortable with English or my native language, Dutch, it pretty much means I'll be reading in English. I haven't really yet read anything from an author that didn't either write in English or Dutch. I suppose that once I'll be reading something by, say, a French author, I might read a Dutch translation if available.

But I do really find that reading in English sometimes requires just a bit more concentration.

I will add that I read Harry Potter as a kid in Dutch, later in English and I find that Wiebe Buddingh', who 'wrote' the Dutch books, is a better author than JK Rowling.

  • Can recommend Color Out Of Space if you're the type that appreciates a bit of Nick Cage. It's Lovecraftian horror but somehow also has Tommy Chong in its cast.

And why not make it a more Cage-y by with Renfield and Longlegs? Throw in some Willy's Wonderland and you'll be golden.

  • A Dutch talkshow host absolutely wrecked the notion of this sport, and skeleton as well. It's basically just going down a slide one at a time on a little sled, was his point. And the difference between these sports is the way you lie on the sled.

  • I can see how the oxygen thing gets frustrating in some early points in the game, but at some point it really doesn't matter much anymore. You'd either never die from it anyway or ride a Stingray everywhere.

In 4 they did the same flying mechanics but without the oxygen which is kind of cool.
