  • I sure as shit am not dragging a whole Media PC setup to a hotel with me.

I'm sure as shit not paying a third-party a subscription for piracy.

Push-pull, Plex kiddie. If it was easy, everyone would do it. I guess you don't care enough about your own media being yours. I like security, it's why I use a VPN with Jellyfin and don't just freely give my media over to a company to take care of.

    Checks the OP

Oh yeah, this entire thread is about Plex being hacked, not Jellyfin. I remember now. Why should any of us be on the backfoot if you guys are the ones fucking up?

  • You can use Plex and JF both without actually hosting illegal content.

Where's the fun in that? We're on Lemmy. Cut loose a little.

  • How do you know someone uses Plex?

Check their browser history for ChatGPT queries on how to connect to 192.168.1.1.

  • You're literally in a thread where the OP topic is Plex getting hacked. I guess more secure on paper is good enough for willful ignorance.

  • I geoblock everywhere but my home town and VPN everyone else, plex kiddie. If Jellyfin can't do security, do it yourself and get to whitelisting and blacklisting. You can, can't you, or do Plex users get confused when they see a wireguard private key?

Weird, I'd more think Plex users to be the lazy type to install their systems by copying and pasting from ChatGPT.

  • Okay… Run wireguard on a roku TV or other many other common media devices. You can’t…

Sucks for you. Android TV boxes can, Linux Media PCs can. Weird. Almost like you're pirating media and you can't be asked for a bit more effort.

  • "But this is the good one, bro."

You should see the bad one.

  • Huh, I guess centralizing all of that userdata was a bad idea. Weird. If you hack some dude's Jellyfin, you just hack some dude and no one else.

  • Essentially.

The fediverse, small-web, ubb-boards, xda, and parts of the darkweb, as well as places like 4chan all belong to a sort-of bound community.

Facebook, Google, Tiktok, Instagram etc make up the mainsteam internet with Tumblr and Reddit on the sidelines.

It's getting worse, it even trickles down to software choices and piracy. Choose Linux and trust the community, run Kodi and fight constant update breakage on Youtube and corporate streaming solutions when Jellyfin and samba shares just work?

At what point does their world of influence become seemingly worse than ours by default and everyone just ignores them? Will the giants allow themselves to be ignored? I believe they will eventually make self-sufficiency impossible. Somehow, some day, you won't have any of these choices and everyone will be nickle and dimed to death until the entire internet is an unskippable full-screen ad.

From some mobile-only average working Joes out there, that's all it already is.

  • Because with Lemmy’s architecture darknet sites could not federate with clearnet sites as the end user’s browser fetches content directly from the federated instances.

Ehhh, that just seems like something someone hasn't fixed yet but easily could if built for that purpose. No one's taken a hammer to that nail yet.

A tunnel could exist on each server that relays to TOR and back to the instance, allowing it to federate with .onion instances under an alias or something. TOR is extremely flexible with tunneling and being really specific with what you let in and from where. I could see how it could be tailored to the purpose.

  • Unless you’re talking about moving completely to the darknet.

There are XMPP servers hosted on .onion.

I see no reason why a lemmy instance, or more, couldn't also be hosted there.

  • My precious DDR4!

  • If the old guard isn't up to the task of representing the best wishes of the people who voted them into office then we need to refrain from voting for them any further and continue voting for new progressives like Mamdani.

  • The message: don't vote for these backwards fucksticks

  • Am American, everything here is spot-on 100% true. I could find real life photos of everything here.

    Yeah, even her.

  • Into the bunker!

shuts a big vault door with "TOR" written on it

  • I wish every single thing didn't get propped up as a paradigm shift into the fucking future.

Crypto and Ai can just exist as tools and not he hyped up to infinity as something they aren't, but lo and behold, walstreet and the tech oligarchs need new products and "wave of the futures" to dangle over everyone's face from fad to fad to fad to fad.

"Hey, wait a minute guys. Why don't we stop with the accelerationist bullshit and make people's lives better?"

    "lol as-if!"

  • Once you

    Get the run/dash ability

, none of this is even a problem. You can jump and glide over any normal enemy in the game back to a boss room in about two to three minutes.

  • git gud

  • They have several product lines and many are still made in the states, but from what I've seen in-store, their Chinese footwear might be made there but they're as tight on designs with them as the US-made boots, although many of the cheaper boots have molded soles instead of welts, so it isn't exactly 1-1 comparisons.
