Have you ever considered that the Prime Directive is not only not ethical, but also illogical, and perhaps morally indefensible?

  • (although the ongoing IDW comic Star Trek: The Last Starship, whose writers previously teased to io9 that it had connections to the events of Starfleet Academy, suggested that the Federation was on the verge of incorporating every known galactic civilization into the Federation at the time of the Burn, with the Gorn being the last intergalactic outliers)

Although Klingons had been mentioned multiple times across Discovery‘s later seasons, the show never explored much of what happened to the Klingons by the 32nd century.

It's interesting that they brought up The Last Starship in one context, but didn't carry that forward to the discussion of the Klingons. As I understand it (without having actually read it), according to the comic,

The Klingons did join the Federation, but a sect known as "The Black Path" attacked Earth in the wake of the Burn. This directly led to Earth's secession from the Federation, and presumably the Klingons' as well.

  • I think they've done a decent job of giving each series its own tone and identity.

In any case, SFA and the remaining two SNW seasons are all we're going to be getting any time soon.

  • Star Trek currently just has this new series and Strange New Worlds, which has wrapped production on its final season. 🤷

  • I mean, it's YouTube...

  • Curiouser and curiouser...

  • And episode 5 is essentially a love letter to Deep Space Nine.

Colour me intrigued, especially since the title is reportedly "Series Acclimation Mil," which probably means it's SAM-centric.

Even with the War College next door...

The War College is its own thing and the conversation was very Trek, which is: Is the War College still relevant now that we’ve moved into this new age where we’re actually able to harness back to the original vision of discovery and exploration and curiosity?

So the much-discussed War College has been confirmed to be...Academy-adjacent, separate from the Academy itself.

  • Episode three: "Red Pillar"

  • Big kudos to whoever came up with the episode one title. Very good stuff.

  • I have a feeling they’ve known 5 seasons was the length for a while

I get the impression that they expected to be done after five, but they expected a full 10-episode run for each. They're on record saying that Paramount tried to cancel them after 4, and they were able to negotiate the abbreviated fifth season.

  • I personally think it's best if a new series has some sort of "hook" that makes it unique - more of the same can be fine, but it's better to have something that says, "this is why this ship/station/crew is worth following."

  • Yeah, like I said, the professional haters are pretty easy to spot.

As far as removing negativity...well, our rules are pretty clear on that. Be respectful, explain yourself, and be truthful, and there's not going to be a problem.

  • I'm not certain I understand the question, but the Breen seemed relatively unscathed by the Dominion War - the front lines were nowhere near their homeworld, as far as we know.

  • Yeah, good call - I think it should be self-evident that links to the online hate machine are not allowed here. We all know the usual suspects, and they're generally not hard to spot.

  • These are just the ones that I've seen - if you happen across any others, feel free to share them.

  • At last, I can inform the world of my devotion to the Kosst Amojan!

  • Well, I should add that I've mellowed on both series over time - I think Voyager is fine once you accept it for what it is, rather than for what it's not, and Enterprise...well, there's some good stuff in there, but it will never be near the top of my rewatch list.

  • A decent number of people vocally hated DS9, Voyager and Enterprise, when they first started airing

    It me

(well okay, I never hated DS9, and my dislike for Voyager grew over time, but it basically me)

  • So, putting aside your statements of quality (some of which I agree with and some of which do not, but it's all subjective so whatever), I personally wouldn't hold "audience size" or whether a series was cancelled against him, unless you think the shows weren't any good. Seems like IDIC to me.
