1·3 days agoI think needing multiple searches and sources is a good thing, personally. Yes it takes more time and effort but it reinforces research skills. Performing the search yourself provides an opportunity to critically evaluate the information you’re finding and, if applicable, take into account any bias a source may have.
Can’t comment on code generation.
I suppose it depends on the Linux difficulty but reading through documentation and ArchWiki typically gets me enough info to make a more informed/refined search. You’re also likely to stumble across information you’ll want to know rather than just find an answer to the question you’re asking.

1·3 days agoI see where you’re coming from and agree that modern search engines are trash. Have you tried the alternate search engines suggested in the first comment? I would personally try those first I suppose.

2·3 days agoA locally run LLM is a different story, one that I’m slightly more open to, but “trusting” any corp is how we got here. To me degoogling isn’t just about moving away from Google but about removing myself from any nonessential service and limiting the data I share with essential services.
I also just plain don’t know what I’d use any LLM for.

My mindset is all-or-nothing because I have yet to find a use for LLMs. Enlighten me, please.

45·11 days agoI fucking hate Musk but in what world is SpaceX unprofitable? If you’re talking about xAI then I’ll agree with you, but with the access to space and starlink/starshield wrapped up in it SpaceX is positioned as the most likely of the AI companies to receive a government bailout when the balloon pops.
