  • They power moved themselves as controlling the front page pretty early on.

Its about banning from specific sublemmy like news, politics, political_memes, and world such that only a specific world view is allowed to filter through, and frankly, Jordon Lund isn’t even close to the worst offender. By far, squid was an order of magnitude more editorial. Jordon’s got issues like his completely ridiculous on what counts as a news source (he bases this on the technology stack a site is producing content under rather than if they have an editorial review board or not), but as a volunteer mod doing a thankless job, I’ve tried to give them some grace when it comes to their actions.

    Its wearing thin though.

  • Its interesting right.

When it comes to any attempts to get things done that would make the party more progressive, or more to more aggressively fight, there is always some rule, some policy, the fucking “Parlementarian”, whatever, that blocks them. There are rules! We must follow them, even the ones that contradict the other ones!

But when it comes to stopping progressives, they change, bend, or break their own rules to favor a candidate or policy, its fine. Very legal very cool, the court said so. Justified as “they are private institution and can do whatever they want”. The DNC can rig their primary, its fine. The court said so. See. The rules don’t matter.

The term, I believe, is called illiberalism. Its the facade of democracy; the trapings, the method: but none of its substance. The Democratic party would have it both ways. Rules matter, when it comes to stopping you from having influence on the party, and yet, the rules don’t matter, again, if it results in stopping you from having influence in the party.

The Democratic party is an illiberal party, when it comes to their own governance.

  • The DNC is a direct and explicit enemy of leftism

They are also a direct opponent of themselves. The chaos and division in this community, its a direct result of the incompetence of Democrats and the limited range of responses we can have to it: criticism or denial. Republicans didn’t “win” in November: The Democrats fucking blew it. They blew it HARD. Trump was as unpopular, as the incumbent who stepped down because he was so deeply unpopular. The DNC were’ given one of the best second chances in the history of politics, the took the opportunity to assert their own agenda, frog marching the candidate to the right, and lost the fucking big game.

You had two choices, at the start of 2024, regarding how to deal with Democratic incompetence. You could deny it, or you could highlight it. The goal of denying it, I suppose, was to hope that voters wouldn’t notice. Highlighters, our goal was to get these fucking incompetents to actually win. To get them to actually change their fucking strategy, their rhetoric, their approach. The denialists cost us our democracy by refusing to address or even acknowledge the real, legitimate criticisms people have of the DNC; how a party of half a loaf politics is simply not good enough for most people to show up for. Half-a-loaf, the compromising of ones values, loses to fascism, every time. And half-a-loaf is all we’ve gotten from Democrats for the past half century.

Learn the fucking lesson: Gaslighting voters loses elections. You can’t fake being the “party of the people” when you never show up for them. Or if when you do its just a fucking corporate sellout like Obamacare or build-back-better. If you want to win elections you can’t fake it.

If this is how the DNC is going to approach politics, the future of this country: **they will not win another election, ever.

  • I mean duh. Everyone here, with a core set of exceptions, was making the same points about Biden’s approach to the border while it was happening. At least Flores had the candor to leave the administration.

The summary of the entire Biden approach to the border was to undermine the previous 16 years of work and progress that Democrats had been making on the border and then allow Trump to entirely frame and own the narrative on the matter. This left Biden to double down with that bullshit they pulled in the senate the summer before: a border bill more draconian than anything Republicans had been able to come up with.

And the Democrats expected their voters to show up and support that?

Like. Stop fucking taking your notes on how to get Democratic voters to show up to the polls from fox fucking news, DNC leadership.
