  • It was a huge success for the major players, but a disaster for long term diplomatic strategy, which we are just now starting to see bear fruit. In addition, and more importantly imo, it proved to the Saudis that they (even more than Israel) could basically do whatever they want, even be directly tied to attacks on US soil and the US would never punish them for it, which means that they are essentially allowed to play the field as they please.

If this economy crashes due to the AI bubble, it will directly be at the hands of Saudi investors going buck wild with the knowledge that they will never suffer any consequences from the American leash.

  • Paper and plastic.

I'm not kidding those are pretty much our two main physical exports, since we moved all of our electronics production to China or Mexico.

  • The most interesting thing about the "Russian talking point" thing, is that it doesn't even claim that the talking point is wrong, just implies that because even if it is true, the enemy saying it means that you shouldn't acknowledge it.

  • Except he won't if he won't actually claim socialists or at least shut the fuck up about them. I pray that he is lying, but this does not help us at all, it distances us from these ideas and concepts, and for what? A sniff at the ass crack of power? At least compromise your principles for something real.

  • It doesn't. Much like "Everyone was against the invasion of Iraq".

  • I was always of the opinion that Brexit could be a good thing, but it wouldn't be because it is done by Tories with the explicit interest of having more power in their ability to sell the government to private capital and manipulate the market.

It made no sense to have the pro-Brexit left on, when they were by far not a factor in the movement.

  • Genuinely nothing will beat his movie pitch of "Me No Dumb" starring Matthew Perry.

  • The big thing I always point to is that it took dragging the Democrats left, kicking and screaming to get it through. And even then it had to be done through the courts not the legislature, which the Democrats then immediately gave up nationally to the Republicans.

  • Also don't pay attention to the ludicrous amounts of time, money and violence that I put into making sure those critiques only stay as critiques.

  • This isn't a very good argument.

They have essentially infinite money and use that to enforce their will with the largest propaganda apparatus of all time and massive amounts of violence. That's why they are winning and working for the libs is still them winning because you are acting within their terms, within their game.

It is slightly better than pure consumption.

  • There is a non-zero chance that they bribed the hell out of the Commission.

  • Exactly. While alot of my friends, online and otherwise, spent their time making fun of (under the guise of critique obviously) Christians and Muslims, I usually spent my time arguing with other supposed atheists, because I mistakenly thought the point was to interrogate poor thinking, not just dunk on obviously stupid ideas.

Like, the largest problem for me was that people would treat the Bible as some sort of unerring word or first hand account, when any honest Biblical scholar knows and talks about how that clearly isn't the case. But the fact that it isn't the case makes the world a much more rich and complex place, as opposed to flat and simplistic. In the same way, many online atheists were bound and determined to make Christians and Muslims into flat and simplistic caractures as opposed to trying to understand the logic and mechanisms of social faith. This limited perspective is what made me think the movement was doomed to fail and sputter out, even as a high schooler. We had abandoned philosophy in exchange for science, without understanding that science is a method of philosophy, thus making our understanding more incomplete.

  • They are likely using them to fund the war effort. It's not like Ukraine is making much money elsewhere.

  • I will continue to bang the drum. Stop talking about him. He is not relevant to any discourse outside of himself and brings nothing unique or interesting to the dialogue. Please for the love of God stop posting about him.

  • Damn, only took abit of criticism for that mask to slip huh?

  • Dang, that another large company bought by the Saudis. International capital really is coming in to pick at the scraps of the U.S.

  • Their primary viewer demographic is dying, and most of the white kids who grew up watching football are pretty a-political about this sort of stuff. Literally, I have seen the Washington Commanders referred to as "The Commies" scornfully and lovingly, but purely in the context of football. And most of them definitely don't care who is doing the Half-Time show.

However, their expansion demographic has been for a long time South America, particularly Brazil, Chile, and Argentina, and they have been making pretty big headway there. This kind of stuff will basically help a bunch of South American men to convince their significant others to put on the Super Bowl and watch it with them at a party or something.

Hell, some people will just tune in for the Half-Time show, but that's nothing new. My parents remember when it was in Minneapolis, and Prince played, and the game itself was shit, but the halftime show was so good that people were selling bootlegs of it.

  • There is a theory in the more sane areas of true crime that the spike in serial killers in the 70's and 80's is likely directly related to the increase in Korean and Vietnam veterans returning from service. Another common thing was a noted increase in arsons.

  • Yeah, Hanlon's Razor only applies to the causal nature of something, not it's morality. That said, it is a principle that is supposed to inspire empathy, but for me only inspire increasing scorn and disgust for those in power. Especially since they can't even bother to do all the evil shit they want to do competently. They are evil and stupid and somehow because they have more money than God are in control of things.

  • It really demonstrates the differences between the pre-modern, modern and late-modern (I refuse to use the word post modern because it is meaningless) revolutions. Pre-modem revolutions used abstract colors and shapes to represent their ideals, modern revolutions used more concrete symbols representing their production and trade, and late modern use the symbols of their consumption.
