Concord Casimir, while not a groundhog, is a weather-predicting cat whose forecast is based on how he eats his annual pierogi meal. He resides in Concord, Ohio, on the outskirts of Cleveland
As if Cleveland couldnt be any more confusing of a place
Tbf that was people turning in other people they accused of being kulaks, basically anti-communist wealth hoarders, which was very much an actual thing that happened often early in the USSR.
People accused of being kulaks were rarely actually anti communist or hoarding wealth though. It was usually an accusation tossed around specifically with the intent of taking other people out for selfish reasons. Basically like witch hunts in western Europe centuries before that. The kulak was a boogieman accusation that could get anyone taken out by the government
This is different in that its people leveraging someones actual verifiable status as undocumented to fuck them over. Its not a boogieman thing, even if the government portrays undocumented people as some evil boogieman as a justification for the evil shit theyre doing
Considering that most of the people supporting ICE view everything through the most basic “us vs them” tribalism lens, Im curious to see how this shakes out.
Assuming a lot of pro-ICE people probably originally imagined the shooters as typical white good ol boy agents making a career of terrorizing brown people, what happens now? How does the white christofascist hierarchy assign placement to a hispanic ICE agent, which in their mind is surely virtually an oxymoron?
With Good’s killing, obviously they still support the ICE agent who killed a liberal, because liberal is obviously an outgroup of lesser people to them
With Pretti, a fairly traditional white good ol boy figure who cares for veterans and carries a firearm but also is protesting against ICE operations is killed by two brown ICE agents. The veneer of him being some kind of liberal domestic terrorist quickly falls apart, and now they have to rectify supporting ICE ops with the fact that now someone closer to their imagined in-group was killed by two officers they would otherise. They have to swallow the fact that they too could be shot dead if they were carrying in the street while protesting government actions. And these are people that hardly ever stop thinking of potentially rallying against the government if it doesnt do exactly what they want
I imagine in confronting that, some people on the right will start to be against ICE ops, and somehow the rest will perform mental gymnastics so impressive that they could earn olympic gold
Also, I think a lot of people fail to realize that Indian is the correct term legally for native people in the US, regardless of the fact that its based on Columbus’s stupidity passed on for generations.
Bureau of Indian Affairs, Indian Health Services, Indian Law, etc. There is no “Bureau of Native American Affairs”.
Beyond that, the vast majority of native people dont have much of an issue with the term and often call themselves Indian or NDN, not only because its technically legally appropriate but also because it pokes fun at the stupidity of generations of people that took over this continent in a gallows humor type fashion. Obviously people see themselves as Ojibwe, Wahzhazhe, Tsalagi, Nuuchu, etc. first, the same way that a French person thinks themselves a Frenchmen first and not as simply a European. But as an overarching term Indian is very commonly used by native people from many different nations/tribes
My local airport pretty much exclusively operates commercial flights on CRJs. If they were decertified tomorrow we would go to having no commercial flights at all.
That said, the CRJs are reaching end of life and are expected to be replaced by Embraer (Brazilian made) alternatives in the near future. So airlines are actually already planning to ditch the CRJs. Realistically though they dont actually have those jets yet, so if they are no longer able to use CRJs until the switchover then they will lose a massive amount of money. Not to mention the amount of money many areas will lose by having no commercial flights
Itll certainly clear up the schedule for more private jet access at regional airports though, like Aspen and Telluride. Im sure his rich friends would be ecstatic about that
I, for one, hope Trump goes out of his way to disrespect Kendrick Lamar. How can we have a famous diss track about Drake being a pedophile, but not one about the president? Missed opportunity…
Pretty sure the fourth person is just a woman being blown by a stiff wind. Obviously very different from standard woman
