Hi I'm Tim.

I'm AuDHD - officially diagnosed ADHD and self-diagnosed (for now) with ASD. I also suffer from a great deal of Imposter Syndrome.

  • Which is wild when they are working on a new very ambitious game right now.

    Edit - Light No Fire

  • It boggles my mind that all these power companies aren't building out solar and wind everywhere they can. The return on investment alone has to be better than constantly buying/obtaining fossil fuels. I would think maintenance overhead would also be less as well.

  • Why do they always respond by shooting a disproportionately obscene ballistic at things like this camera, instead of just disabling/taking the camera? The target is at a hospital, why are they shooting at a single camera with a tank? And two shells?? For a camera?

I know why, but could some country that gives at least 1 fuck just put troops at the hospitals/aid camps? Offer to run security at these facilities and let the IDF worry about finding Hamas, instead of scary cameras.

I'd love to see our troops do that rather than harassing houseless individuals, or just walking around like Stormtroopers. I know it's a pipe dream anyone does anything though. 😩

  • Your probability of remaining anonymous with Google is already slim, but trying to remain anonymous while also using their services has to be near impossible. They are one of the largest advertisers on the Internet, and they have the reach and tech to fingerprint almost everyone.

And it's also hard for a company to protect profits (remember in the US -- capitalism > civil liberties) and comply with all these new regulations if your users are all hiding their locations via VPN.

Social media platforms face huge fines under UK’s new digital safety laws

Also have the ruling of their antitrust case coming up:

Alphabet’s Google (GOOGL) Likely to Avoid Breakup, But Antitrust Remedies Could Hit Core Revenue

  • Yep, they'll enforce rolling blackouts before they make the LLMs scale back anything.

In another (better) timeline governments would stop giving these people handouts and make them responsible for funding and maintaining their own power.

  • I wonder if all these new "protect the kids" age verification laws play a part in this. Not sure what YouTube's/Google's liability would be in allowing, for instance, UK users to just VPN around there "Online Safety Act" requirement(s). I'm sure they could play dumb for a bit, but eventually some jackass is going to hear about what people are doing and get Google to explain why VPN traffic is way UP and UK traffic is way DOWN, and "think of the children!".

  • See you down in Arizona bay!

(Stolen from the Tool song Ænima, which is based on the Bill Hicks album.)

  • And why would one terrorist (or even a bunch) warrant leveling a hospital full of civilians anyway? You know where they are (supposedly), why not gas them out or something, unless they aren't the real target ...

  • And if they do see it, he forces them to sign an NDA so he can threaten to sue the shit out of them to keep them silent.

  • Well, they also have them harassing houseless individuals. Trump has been using the poor as a way to desensitize people to armed troops in the streets, because I'm sure Miller is rock hard just thinking about rounding up everyone that:

    1. didn't vote Trump
    2. non-white

Saw video of him and Vance getting boo'd and you could just see his lust for bloodshed. And Trump is completely checked out at this point, because he just doesn't have enough neurons firing to do anything but cheat at golf.

  • Not a boomer, but was in Uni in '99. The '99/00 new year was a wild time because everyone waited to see if something had its update missed that would cause mass chaos.

In the end nothing of consequence happened.

  • Double check that math. 😜 It feels like only a few years ago, and it being a quarter century seems impossible.

  • The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is narrowing the capabilities and reducing the number of next-generation weather and climate satellites it plans to build and launch in the coming decades ...

And just like that, the US bows out of another scientific segment we could have been leaders in. It also would be cool if an asshole with a 4 year term wasn't able to screw us all for generations so easily.

  • Yeah, I'm glad we are dumping our money into dying industries like coal, and pollution heavy industries like oil.

If there is anything left of the US when Trump is done it's going to take generations to 180° the country out of its death march. I'm guessing we'll have destroyed the earth to the point we need to go full Wall-E by that point.

  • Indeed. It is somewhat similar to when man messes up an ecosystem either by introducing an invasive species, or decimating a species in an area. It doesn't affect everything, everywhere, but can severely change a local ecosystem in ways that may not be obvious.

A great example of this is how the wolves in Yellowstone changed the whole ecosystem of the park, both with the wolves removal, and again with their reintroduction.

  • Fair enough, I just can't imagine for me anything Jay could have put in that video that I would need any commentary done on it. Jay is a Windows/hardware guy making a Linux video for fun, trying to make it something it isn't is disingenuous, and if I even knew who this guy was I would avoid his content going forward as he clearly is scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

But I guess to each their own, a lot of people watch the slop which is why the bots/AI bros are flooding YouTube with videos. This is just one more video added to the mix.

  • Never heard of them, and their site doesn't leave me filled with confidence. They make a big deal about using a slower algorithm, call it zero trust, but also have a client that mounts your "drive" local seamlessly. In order to do that though your files need to be unencrypted before your OS can read them. So the client needs to be constantly encrypting and decrypting your files since it hypothetically has zero knowledge of your files at rest on their server.

I could see files getting scrambled/corrupted when it's being uploaded and downloaded in rapid succession.

Edit - You also shouldn't consider it a backup if you're accessing the files constantly like Dropbox. You are essentially just paying for a mountable S3 drive, not a backup.

  • Yep, this is a low effort video that had no real need to be made except to get clicks. It's like when Linus does his random Linux videos every couple of years, there is absolutely no value in making a "reaction video" about them. Nothing he says in those videos could be worth the creator's time, OR the viewers time.

Your agreement is we need these low effort, low value videos, and I strongly disagree. You might as well make "reaction videos" about whatever stupid shit Mr. Beast is doing, same amount of value. Garbage in -> garbage out.
