  • I say this multiple times per week.

  • DARE programs were notoriously ineffective. Some studies found that students who went through it were MORE likely to try drugs.

I also had a fairly friendly cop come in for our DARE classes when I was a kid. They also basically just said "drugs are always bad, just say no, if you don't your whole life is ruined."

They didn't talk about why people use drugs. They lied or exaggerated negative effects. They discouraged any critical thinking about it. It was not a good program.

  • Honestly this was my biggest "wtf" takeaway from this. There's a Microsoft Copilot DISCORD SERVER? Are there other "official" Discord servers for other random Microsoft products? Why aren't they using Teams or whatever?

  • Is there any data on how many actual people still regularly use Twitter? I feel like you're assuming that that's where the users are, and maybe that's still true, but I don't know a single real life person who still actually uses it.

  • Seriously. As someone who only did a few prompts and chats when it first came out, I do not understand what people are getting so much use out of. I guess they just mostly trust the bullshit it spits out so it seems like it saves time?

  • Sorry, I think my brain did a swapsies with the J months.

While I think these types of events do show how news media covers individual violence differently, I find it kinda annoying to have any reports on individual acts of violence on a "world news" community unless those individual actions have larger effects. Reporting individual acts of violence from any "other" side gives people an unhealthy justice boner.

  • Is the current world not terrible or eventful enough that we need to post articles about individual actions from fucking JULY?!

I guess Lemmy is becoming Reddit.

  • BASED?

  • It's nice that you reimburse the shops after your cravings subside.

  • I think mocking might work for some people, but there certainly seem to be a ton of people running around with absolutely no shame. These people can't be fought with mockery because they'll just use it to boost their userbase. This is how we've ended up in this weird cult of personality environment.

IDK the best way to distinguish between the mockable and the unmockable, but it'd be nice to have a method.

  • While I think it's a nice thought, I still find the idea that humans are the ONLY "storytellers" to be falling into the same trap as tool use. Just because we haven't witnessed or recorded it doesn't mean that other species don't tell "stories".

Heck, even crows learn faces and then tell other crows about those faces. If that's not some form of "storytelling" idk what is.

  • What the hell is this comment? Do you literally need an individual video from every single veteran to believe that there are more of them out there fighting this shit? I'm legitimately confused.

  • It's not right in the middle of the city, but there is a direct light rail train that goes to it and it's not very far.

  • Disagree. Being nice and having empathy is actually really fucking easy, at least to the people you directly interact with. It's only hard when we're burnt out, which capitalism is really good at making everyone.

  • You sound like a great parent, and this should ideally be how every parent teaches their kids. Trust, open discussion, and a welcoming environment for questions.

  • I feel that too. I don't think that there's something wrong with you. There's something wrong with society. Nobody does things best the same way, and society has a heavy preference for a specific way of doing things.

  • Absolutely agree. When I got out of college, I was like "I have some money finally, I'll support the shows and movies I want to watch by actually buying them online outright and streaming everything else legally!"

And then several of the things I "bought" got removed from my library several years later.

Then instead of 2 or 3 streaming platforms, there were suddenly 6.

Then every streaming service kept shuffling around my favorite shows.

And suddenly, the experience of paying for the content I wanted to watch became way too cumbersome.

  • So skip those reviews and scroll down to the ones that resonate with you.

Any bigger game with meme/stream potential is gonna get a few idiots writing nonsense reviews for the lols , but in guarantee that there are still plenty of very relevant reviews that are useful for deciding if you'll vibe with a game

  • Too much can seem like love bombing, but genuine compliments are so rare!
