  • He isn't. He can't be; not the way he has handled them.

Bringing industry and manufacturing back to US soil is actually not a bad idea at all but it's a problem that needs to be tackled smartly and over a period of time so businesses can react. He is trying to force decades worth of economic migration in the span of a few months. For (hopefully) obvious reasons, that is impossible and the US economy is about to collapse.

And considering Trump, along with Musk at DOGE, have systematically destroyed economic and social safety-net programs... the aftermath of this is going to be catastrophic. The only way Trump is "right" about these tariffs is that they are an intentional sabotage of the US economy so him and his wealthy backers can cash out as the walls come crashing down. That is the goal and it's going according to plan.

  • I want to pet the funky bird creature.

  • Singh has to go if the NDP ever wants to have even a shred of hope of being competitive in the polls again.

I don't even think he's a bad politician per se, but it's obvious he is not resonating with Canadians and hasn't for years.

  • Pushing your middle finger tightly into your thumb to build up pressure. Vary the pressure slightly and your middle finger will slip off your thumb, and due to the pressure built up, quickly slam into the base of your thumb and produce a loud sound.

Once you're got the hang of that you can try it with other fingers. The ring finger works nicely as well.

  • I've noticed a few intersections around me have put up "Yield to bicycles when turning right" signs.

Sad that a basic fundamental rule of driving needs its own dedicated sign. It'd be like having a sign that says "Proceed on green".

  • Minimum 2 locks. And the lock featured in the article wouldn't cut it. Or rather it would be cut... and quite easily too.

Possibly even 3 locks if you have a very valuable e-bike. But honestly I would just get a beat up junker bike and ride that instead if you need to park it in iffy places.

  • Do you know how I can tell when I have an incoming call or message? My phone, which is in my pocket, makes a noise and vibrates. Why the absolute hell would I want my vacuum cleaner to notify me of a call?

And the washer too? Do they seriously think people just sit around at home taking calls every 5 minutes that they need every appliance to be able to make/take phonecalls?

  • There are. It's just the US is a large car-centric country which makes travel difficult and the ruling party controls almost all of the media and thus there is a media blackout on protests.

  • She went into prison in 2023 so she will be there for a while yet.

I don't think her wealth is known exactly but she and her company lost billions during the scandal.

  • Elizabeth Holmes comes to mind. She manoeuvred herself into a position of wealth and power by defrauding other rich people and got herself 11 years in prison for it. That's 11 years more than most other rich scumbags get.

  • How is this even a deal? Ukraine gets basically nothing in return.

    This is just extortion.

  • And this is where some of the worst long-term damage to the US is going to be felt.

The world seeks reliable trade partnerships and the US is willing throwing them away to empower its biggest rival.

  • Yes, but also no. Canada not only has a lot more potash than Russia does but we're also better equipped to export it to the US. For potash to get from Russia to the US it would have to be transported overland to a port, loaded onto a ship, travel essentially across the entire globe, make port, unload, get put on a train or truck, and sent to where it is needed. And that's assuming Russia even has the infrastructure to facilitate exports of such a scale to the US. Exporting it from Canada means tossing it on a train just yeeting it down across the border. Even with hefty tariffs with Canada in place, buying from Russia would still be pissing money away.

Canada still has leverage over the US when it comes to potash but Russia selling to other countries is a problem.

  • Fish do too. Fish have pressure sensors down the lengths of their bodies they use for navigation, sensing prey and predators, and communicating.

My gouramis are making clicking noises in their tank as I type this. Love those things.

  • Myths like this have always made me kinda angry. Anybody that has owned fish for more than a few days could easily say that this isn't true at all.

But aside from that - animals simply wouldn't exist if they were that stupid. The world is a dangerous place, especially underwater. Not having even basic memory and pattern recognition would be a one-way flight to extinction.

  • Depends on by whom and how long. The US produces a lot of things but also imports a lot of critical goods and materials as well.

If Canada, Mexico, China, and the EU & UK all banded together for sanctions or embargoes? The US economy would be pushing daisies pretty quick. Especially if the actions were coordinated and did not give the US time to react and adjust.

But the countries issuing those actions wouldn't be in good shape either. Trade wars are a 2-way street.

  • This is why blaming conservatives or getting them to admit fault doesn't work. It only makes them become more defensive and entrenched.

A better approach is to appeal to their victim complex. IE: Instead of "Trump is ruining this country and its your fault for voting for him!" try "Dude, Trump is screwing us! This isn't the great America we were promised!" or some variation of that. Gotta use different tactics.

  • There are. Heaps of them.

The US is just a big place and very spread out. And the ruling government and its media conglomerates are trying to keep them out of the media.
