I've been hanging out with a Trots group and they seem to hold a lot of grudges against literally everyone. Stalinism this, Bonapartism that, and all anyone ever did was betray the working classes and had the working classes followed Trotsky's theory of 'permanent revolution', we would have achieved a dictatorship of the proletariat instead of another Stalinist bureaucracy. For all their talk about viewing things dialectically, I feel like this perspective is the opposite of that. They are good people and have their hearts in the right place but there is a part of me that finds their views intellectually dishonest. It's easy to scapegoat and point the finger at the failings of past and current socialist experiments (I'm not even sure if they would consider USSR or China as "socialist"), but my conclusion is that Trotsky's theories are just that, purely theoretical and haven't had the rigor and challenge of actually being tried in reality.
