  • "Students were asked to write a 650-word response to an academic study that examined whether conformity with gender norms was associated with popularity or bullying among middle school students."

"Fulnecky wrote that she was frustrated by the premise of the article because she doesn’t believe that there are more than two genders based on her understanding of the Bible, according to a copy of her essay"

That person clearly just didn't understand the task they were given. It doesn't matter whether you believe there are more than two genders. Clearly there are other people that do and thus do not adhere to the gender norms and that can have an effect on their popularity or whether or not they get bullied. So...that person was just unable to comprehend that there might be people out there that see the world with different eyes...heck, that person even got offended by that fact. That is so stupid!

In academia you are (and should be!) constantly confronted with different ideas and logic and arguments should become your tools to deal with them. That person could have even used a Christian point of view to try and explain the results of that study (whatever that was).

  • ...I think his name is actually written Gnocchi.... ;)

Synchronous body pillow-ing...you have two champs there...

  • Also look at all the mass-firings in the tech industry. Many of them are argued with AI being able to replace the workers, even though this hasn't been proven. Even non-tech companies argue that way. AI is supposed to increase efficiency and thus you need less people to do the work.

The dot-com bubble at least also came with mass-enployment. I wonder if the burst of the AI-bubble will result in the companies having to re-employ many of the workers they fired...

  • Check out JetKVM. The software and hardware is well thought out and works great. I use it for my homelab (mostly internally, so I can't say too much about external access).

  • I hate you so much right now....

...nah,just kidding. Nice garden and you are very lucky.

  • The amazing thing is that there is often a translation layer involved and it still runs faster. And as it was pointed out, this can also be achieved with a "normal" Linux system.

  • Ich fühle mich angegriffen...

  • Nazi imagery? What? What the hell are you talking about?

The name comes from the French spelling of Ariadne, a Greek mythical character.

  • Thanks for the clarification. I would even say that I mostly agree with the sentiment. Immigration has been a pointless discussion for years now and I think no party (except the AFD) actually profited from it. SPD and die Grünen have both failed to disspell the AFD narrative.

  • Well...I think you lost me. The really sudden loss of your job sucks, no matter what. I agree that a lot of people get laid off every day, but I feel sorry for them too. Employee protections in the US are also terrible compared to a lot of other countries. This situation is different, because it is so random, so far reaching and connected with a lot more insecurity. An ailing company may fire people...that is something you can see coming, but what is happening right now is just senseless and not very smart. A lot of things will break and in the end people will die, many people will leave the country and the economy will tank.

  • While I can only guess, I think he/she meant that all the stupid things the government has done so far should not have come as a surprise to anyone. They announced most of it and even the things they kept "quiet" were pretty obvious. So government employees could have searched for alternative jobs beforehand and kind of "brace for impact" and unions could have planned a coordinated response to bullshit firings. Lawsuits could have (and actually have) been prepared so that it would not take months to react to all the stupid stuff that's happening now.

Or maybe I am completely wrong :)

  • Bold statement. Do you have any examples? I would disagree, but maybe I just don't quite understand what you meant.

  • I hate typing on my phone and English is not my first language, so I guess the point I was trying to make didn't quite make its way through. Sorry.

The more conservative party left the coalition because they value their "sovereignty" and "independence" and thus don't want to play by the rules of the EU. To me they basically just trade one Dependance for another. They want to still be able to sell their oil to the EU, so they depend on EU's demand for oil, but they don't want to give up some freedoms even though that in turn would bolster their independence in the energy sector (even more local renewable electricity production, improved infrastructure that would be less susceptible to failure, and so on).

It just makes no sense to me. The EU directives are actually quite in line (or could easily be spun into line) with the ideals of traditionally conservative parties. Yet everywhere (not just Norway), those parties HATE renewable energy. And I think it is pretty clear that money is the big factor here...

Also...maybe I'm blind, but nowhere in the article it's mentioned that Norway produces its energy with hydro?

  • I'm always surprised at what their argument is. "Don't make us invest in cheap renewable energy that will make us independent from other countries". Sure, they export quite a bit, but that makes your economy dependant on external demand. In all other areas the right leaning parties want to sever themselves from outside influence, except when it involves money....

  • But he hates being made fun of. He wants people to be angry with him, because that shows him he has some form of power over them (withholding funding makes "the left" angry -> for him that's good). And he loves to see himself as smart and strong. But if you ridicule him....that hits him.

  • If the patients hadn't been transgender, this would not have been dropped. It is illegal to share that data no matter what...

  • I would love to join, but the whole registration process fails at every turn. Mails aren't sent, login pages just do refresh...please...just let me iiiiinn

  • I think this is true for computers that are in danger of being stolen. Laptops or PCs in dorms or other shared living spaces. But I live in a relatively secure area, burglaries are very rare and my PC never leaves the building. So the benefits of encryption are pretty much negligible.

  • All of which cost more than a 100000 dollars but were still somehow bought on a whim for that one experiment that one time...
