  • What is the alternative to Ubuntu (lets pretend snap doesn't exist) if recommending someone a distro where you don't need to use the CLI to install apps?

    Unfortunately there are many apps that can't be found on flathub/discover.

  • I was always curious but never moved over completely because I had this idea that it was difficult to run things (games, etc). I had a laptop with dual boot with Ubuntu for the longest time, then I started to use WSL to code.

    The thing that made me finally switch was the steam deck. It showed me it was possible and now we don't have a single machine with Windows at home.

    Thinking about it now, I don't know why everyone kept recommending to use Ubuntu, it was probably one of the main reasons why it took me so long to switch.

  • Before I migrated to Linux I used to do this until I got tired of windows killing WSL without any warning

  • I really wish I could find a TV within my desired specs that had DisplayPort. We will buy a Steam Machine to use it in place of our docked Steam Deck in the living room, so being able to use DP would be amazing.

  • We mostly buy digital albums we want on Bandcamp friday. There's also a small vinyl collection but we don't prioritize growing it, since Vinyls are pretty bad for the environment and ripping them is annoying.

    Unfortunately we don't have a lot of CDs.

  • Yes it can be accessed outside the network. We use Tailscale. Our Jellyfin setup cost us the energy to run it, lol.

  • Lemmy is in such bad shape that this is the kind of engagement you get in many communities. There isn't a discussion anymore, only "I don't like this" or "You are being dumb for using this".

    Of course we assume that since people can't bothered to write more than a single line about a topic, they just want to feel better about themselves.

    The world would probably be a better place if people knew that their opinion do not make something a fact.
