  • Yeah keep reading. You're given one fake right and there are 100 other laws. Just because you're the right shade, telling a cop to F off, is a crime in itself even if they're completely wrong. Most people would be arrested just for that.

And that is the entire point. If "the law" is completely discretionary based on the encounter you have with the enforcers and the punishers (police, DA, judges, etc), then you have no rights. Step out of line and you're in prison.

    The US is a shithole.

  • If they weren't conscripted via draft, they volunteered. 100% their shitty choice to become a terrorist.

  • It's waaaaaaay less than half. And it only gets to half because you "need" a police report for many insurance claims that are crime related. Robbery, injuries, vandalism, etc.

    ACAB

  • Are Americans starting to see all their "rights" are meaningless? You know a few you have on paper. The law has another to take it away EVERY SINGLE TIME. You are not free, you are one misguided DAs decision away from jail and destroying your life. Everything is criminal.

  • Even the shit laptops come with 256GB nowadays. Saving less than 0.5% of storage on OS optimizations that reduce usability is a poor tradeoff.

Heck even my phone has 1TB... Flash bytes are cheap. If you have a 32GB soldered down chip, buy a flash drive for the price of a BjgMac and voila you've 4x'd your storage.

  • I also used them for years, then everything blocked and deleted instantly. I have other homelab type friends, same thing happened. Again more anecdote vs anecdote. But if you google about hetzner and this type of activity there are bagillions of reddit threads.

After paying them about a grand a month forever, losing all my "safe data" and having to wait a week for even a response that just says "account has suspicious activity. Disabled". Not a single response after that. And they had the nerve to charge my credit card again at the next payment period. Overall, truly scummy. And I will prevent everyone I can from ever engaging with them.

When hiccups happen, you would hope to be able to at least talk to someone and figure out what's going on. If they don't want to keep your business, fine let me get it out privately. But they don't play that way.

  • You completely misunderstand bringing control substances, even residue, across a federal border. The US CBP absolutely does charge and prosecute for marijuana. CBP is like the TSA of border crossings, part of Homeland Security. They do not F around with drugs, even marijuana. Heck they'll throw grandma in jail for not having her prescriptions in the proper containers.

  • Yes you can find many articles about EU261.

But the airlines have adapted by now. Many of the short haul routes became unprofitable because 1 delay worth of compensation was almost 300% total profit for that flight. Meaning if you had 1 delay, you had to fly 3 more planes to just break even. Many routes were adjusted to trains and buses.

Also because of the timeline, when you fly a European carrier you'll notice they just cancel the entire flight right before 24hrs notice period if they think there'll be issues. Anyone who flies often knows flying through Europe with European carriers is a crapshoot for multiday delays. Flying through the US is a crapshoot for multi hour to multiday delays.

And yes I fly around the world 10x times in a slow year. I'm very much aware of how the routes, carriers, and laws work globally. It's easy to see the differences after decades of being engulfed in it.

  • Yes you can looking many research articles and papers written about EU261

  • I agree. But usually you build the infrastructure replacement before exploding the current solution.

  • As of now, there's no exception for that except if it is an act of god type event like a named storm. Hurricane, no payout. Denver random Thursday blizzard? Payout.

The US has no high speed rail, flying is the only way around.

  • Are there no Americans left with rational thought?

If you go to a different country, and break a law, you're responsible. You can't just say oops. She brought drugs across an international border. She is 100% at fault.

Now what if she was a Dutch national traveling to the USA and did the exact same thing. A small amount of marijuana. Microscopic amount. Flying into a legal state even, say Colorado as Port of Entry. She'd GO TO FEDERAL PRISON. It's a federal crime, the carry a Class 1 scheduled narcotic into the USA. She could be sitting in the US prisons for 25 years.

And the US does this to people all the time. Sometimes if you're the proper shade of immigrant, they'll chastise you and let you go. Or chastise you, cancel your visa, ban you from the country for 5 or 10 years (or forever) and fly you back to your home country. But often, you are arrested and charged.

  • If you don't submit to America's heavy handed surveillance laws, you're screwed. Time to make that stop.

  • On the plus side, the US is catching up to the rest of the world. But as happened in the EU when they did the same thing, prices did go up. Not only to cover these expenses, but limiting routes and canceling city pairs because the liability is too high.

For a real world example, one such city pair I fly between often is generally an hour or so delayed every time. The air space is near 100% capacity so you can't just squeeze in an extra takeoff and landing. The winds are often hurricane level from many directions. Snow in May and June and August happens. Daily hail storms. Daily downpours and thunderstorms. This is normal for a mountainous town. There are 20 flights a day, but they are all whenever and all delayed. Sometimes when the weather clears in the afternoon, the 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm flights all leave at the same time because it's a break.

This compensation rule makes that flight impossible. In the future my bet is there will be 3 scheduled flights a day when there won't be weather issues as likely. Huge number of seats dropped. Ticket prices way up. This will happen everywhere just like it did in Europe.

Someone somewhere has to pay for your constant complaining. And it won't be the airlines themselves. It will be you with ticket prices.

  • It's a conditional branch... You make that into a loop. Branch if zero, branch if not zero, etc.

  • Ah yes the X86 instruction set for mapping.

Everything is a conditional branch loop. Always has been.

  • Do not take anyone that buys a mac seriously. In any way.

32GB has been my minimum laptop memory for YEARS now. My current laptop was 64GB from the factory and 2 years later I made it 128GB. Nice socketed ECC RAM. If the RAM or SSD is soldered on a laptop, I'm not buying it.
