I don’t have a quick answer to your question but as someone who was born in America with a family that celebrates our Scotch-Irish heritage, I have a view/opinion on this topic that might be of some use to you.
The way I see it, people have two types of heritage, ethnic heritage and cultural heritage.
In my long winded explanation, Norwegian is your ethnic heritage, ethnic heritage has to do with your family and where they come from. The best way I can describe it is, a blend of where your family originated from plus the traditions that they still hold on to. Ethnic heritage is more rigid and unchanging.
Cultural heritage is more flexible, it’s influenced by where you grew up and where you currently live. It’s influenced by your friends and the types of media or leisure activities that you all enjoy.
Caveat: This is just an opinion that I’ve been toying around with, it’s not a fully fleshed out idea that I have any empirical evidence to back any of this up. I am open to constructive criticism that will help hone this mess of ideas into something more poignant.
Whenever GOP “Christians” want to use the bible to justify up their hateful ideology, they always use the books in the Old Testament, like Leviticus to hate gays. Very rarely (if ever) do they use the actual teachings and words of Jesus Christ as they are found in the four Gospels. Pay attention whenever you hear Mike Johnson or some other numbskull talk about the bible, what books are they referencing, if it ain’t the New Testament, it ain’t Christian.
To me, a Christian is someone who follows Jesus’s actual teachings, which this guy in Texas obviously does.
I didn’t say it wasn’t wrong. I just watched that episode last week and it’s definitely heartbreaking but it’s just a SciFi version of the trolley problem, either decision is potentially the wrong one.
I think we need to clarify what is meant by “worst decision”. To me, the worst decision is the one that costs the most lives or one that prolongs their time in the Delta Quadrant, since that also potentially leads to more lives lost.
More posturing to look like they’re taking charge. I don’t know if any of what I’m about to say is true but if those attorneys already had the accrued PTO, they will get their pay for that time anyway, at least that’s how it’s worked anywhere else I’ve worked in the US. I participate in protests and boycotts, I donate as much as I can to organizations I believe in. I talk to my friends about trying to organize more and I constantly talk to them about a general strike and a need to shut the system down as it is. My career actively helps against waste and climate change. You’ll probably say that’s the bare minimum and maybe it is but I have a family to take care of so I can’t be out there like Greta Thunberg. It’s not that I don’t think violence can change things but I’m a nonviolent person.

Do I think being best buddies with a known peodphile and sex trafficker is the worst thing he’s done, probably not but he absolutely doesn’t want to talk about it because he has no good answers.
It’s all part of his flood the zone tactics to control the narrative of anything.
