  • AI stuff

I wonder if they're going to copy deepseek's technique(s) to make LLMs faster on GPUs, or if they're only going to build tons of AI datacenters...

I like having AI built into VSCode, I'm worried that once the AI bubble pops all the free tiers I'm freeloading off of will become extremely stingy... a few have already discontinued anything nicer than a 2 week trial.

And if the US companies can't get their prices lower, DeepSeek will probably eat the low end of the market alive.

Also like, where I work, my boss is monitoring AI usage and will probably fire anyone who is not using it. The jobs market is already bad and there is probably no reasonable chance of finding a job that does not expect you to write code with AI.

    The War in Venezuela

I've heard they mostly only need to occupy some coastal stuff to get the oil. Big time anxiety over this hypothetical, which could mean the eradication of a socialist state in the west, or worse, it could make the cut as a mission in a future call of duty WW3 game.

Unfortunately the Colombian hippos aren't close enough to do something

    really cool.

    Taiwan

I expect absolutely nothing to happen here, even if it happens that the US quagmires itself in Venezuela or somehow loses air craft carriers or a lot of fighters/bombers from some kind of unexpected anti-air capabilities.

  • in 50 years libs will say Trump was 70% right

  • probably a lot less countries are willing to extradite to the US this year, maybe even for things that are actual crimes.

  • It would be selfish of me to move there, because their own people need the support.

you could move there as a skilled worker or teacher, assuming you have a notable skill. For example my skill is asking chatgpt to make websites.

  • unlivable hellscape because it doesn't have OLED TVs are.

you think that's bad, their best processors are only 90nm. can't play crises on that

Enough about Sewer Socialism, what about Swamp Socialism?

  • had they not done it at the time, it is likely that someone else would have done it anyway not long after?

I think it's a safe assumption that most inventions would have been invented by someone else, the opposite is usually the more notable exception. Some things may have been invented and forgotten by history multiple times because of random things like there was no supply chain for copper/steel/coal or w/e back then.

  • goon too far into the abyss, and the piss will soon goon back at you

  • I feel like most people have or know someone with a personal anecdote of facebook/insta giving a zero strike permaban for something substantially less of a crime.

  • can always respect someone with a well balanced ideology

  • I've heard that, probably due to AI (hype or not), graduates fresh out of college are not even getting hired anymore. Every CEO in 2025 thinks they can give their existing staff whatever chatGPT thing and then the senior devs now have a junior dev assistant that costs $10-$500/month.

  • Accounts more likely because that's who he hears "but that's illegal" the most from.

  • I assume 100% of these "ruined" people still have more 10x money than everyone I know combined.

  • this is very sad and depressing

  • in 1924, absofuckinglutly not, shittiest idea imaginable.

in 1937, definitely, Trotsky should have taken over after Stalin for a term or 2.

  • Digg.com is back and you definitely shouldn't join and try to radicalize their community

  • I remember when reddit was the "ugly digg clone" and then digg disappeared lol.

Anyone who cared probably already moved on, they're probably not making a close enough experience to the original for anyone who was truly seeking the nostalgia, and they're probably not fulfilling the privacy/anti-corporate/small community benefits of lemmy/mastodon, and so far there's not any kind of innovative hook.

    Who is this for?

We’re building a human-first community platform that places authentic community and connection at the forefront.

The ruins of Digg's entire modern reputation is that they were the website that didn't respect their users and went under as a result, on what reputational foundation can anyone trust them to fulfill this? If anything, I'm concerned we're going to see next generation astroturfing and corporate censorship, and nothing more. There's basically no reason to join this except to claim all the top mod positions on uncreated subreddits.

  • Either indictment fails or it goes up to supreme court who shrugs and takes whatever line fed by Trump's aides.

probably they delay it via some tiny undotted i in the paperwork and nobody bothers to retry
