  • What was your CCNA experience?

  • I think learning the basics of subnetting, vlaning, switching, and routing and IOS were the most important parts of it. I don’t think I ever needed to really know how to configure a T1 or various other dead technology. But pretty much every vendor uses a clone of IOS and knowing the proper way to logically configure a network is important. I’ve seen so many abhorrent hacked together networks in my day.

    I worked for an ISP who paid for mine back in the day. Took like a 3 day e-learning course and then examine. The real world experience was probably the best way to learn

  • Roblox is one of the most evil companies in the world, actively exploiting children for profit and for cheap labor. A joke for safety guardrails (you can’t even restrict your child from adding anyone as a friend or restrict them from receiving friend requests from total strangers, all you can do is block them after the fact). They allow children to create accounts with no email or verification so that they can get around parental controls and engage with predators if they are motivated and resourceful

    Evidence of predators abusing children on their app and their response is to silence the people shining the light on it.

    There may be good things that come from Roblox but it’s ran by some of the most despicable people and is a net negative in the world in my opinion

  • It seems like a lot of instances are purging old posts. Which makes sense as the operators are paying to store them and it isn’t cheap to continually add storage for rarely accessed content. I don’t know a real good way around it other than just having the bigger instances that are willing to archive everything just not respect deletion requests which I don’t think is ideal either.

    Ultimately I think it’s probably best to consider these posts ephemeral. And using a clipping service to store information we want to retain on our own hard drives. It will prevent Lenny from being used as a knowledge repository but I don’t know how else you can make it cost effective otherwise. It’s not like Lemmy is making anyone money

  • My CRT doesn’t have a SCART input but it does have S-Video. I have a scart to S video adapter that I run to the CRT that looks great. I’d run it to a retrotink 5x/4k if you wanted to play on a widescreen flat panel. It looks great but it’s pricey

  • The trick is too just play the 20 year old game online still instead of moving on to the newer shooters. Everyone still playing is 30+ and have diminished reaction time as well so you still have a shot lol.

  • Interesting perspective. Can’t tell if that makes you a fan of the last Jedi or have a low opinion of Star Wars in general.

    In the near decade since TLJ premiered I’ve litigated my problems with it countless times but it’s probably the best movie in the sequel trilogy. Personally I’d rank The Force Awakens as the better Star Wars movie. Despite it being a basic rehash of the high points of various parts of ANH and the saga, it at least wasn’t a tonal miss like TLJ or a series killing stinker like Rise of Skywalker.

    My rankings go ESB > RotJ > RotS > ANH > TPM > TFA > AotC > TLJ > RoS

  • AI can help you be more agile in getting out a PoC but vibe coding always ends up eating itself and you either aren’t capable enough to fix it (because you are a vibe coder) or you spend more time on the back 9, trying to clean up the code so you don’t have so many hacks and redundancy because the AI was too literal or hallucinated fake libraries that return null or its context window expired and it wrote 5 different versions of the same function

    I will play Fortnite and Roblox and Rocket League with my son and I’ve never had a skin or a battle pass and have tried to show him you can have fun with out wasting your money but that doesn’t stop a kids FOMO.

    Publishers know kids have undeveloped abilities to delay gratification and are susceptible to peer pressure

  • Really? Your parents never bought you worthless junk meant to be throw away like fart putty or those rubber bubbles you blow up with a straw that barely work or packs of Pokémon cards or baseball cards?

    I don’t think it should be up to the parents to tell the kids what’s valuable to them. If the kid wants a vbucks card over a game then you can tell them that’s why they didn’t get a new game.

    (I do recognize that the current monetization models have ruined modern gaming which is why I only play games that are 15 years old or older)
