  • Zelensky signs decree recognizing some Russian territories as historically inhabited by Ukrainians

  • Exactly and frankly it's only right to point out this cultural heritage even if obviously Ukraine doesn't want to conquer these territories. Especially since Russia actively tries to rewrite cultural history about it. And that's by no means limited to people with Ukrainian roots in Russia but they actively rewrite Russian history to discredit dozens of cultural minorities. Very similar to China's ongoing "project" to make China as "Han Chinese" as possible.

  • Such people are just in for the money and have absolutely no qualm of selling out their specific minority. And they always make the mistake of thinking, that they are special and that they will be loved by the bigots they try to placate. But history has shown that such people will always be the first to be purged when the party gets into power if they haven't been thrown out way before that.

    In the US we can currently also see such examples with the MAGA crowd where non white figures in the movement find out the hard way, that the crowd doesn't like them and is already shunning them because of their name, skin color or immigration background.

  • While that may be right, what good is it to have the concept of a well-fortified Democracy with laws aimed to prevent exactly what's happining right now and then not use it! The whole "The NPD shouldn't be banned, because it's to insigificant" and "The AfD can't be banned because it's to big" arguement is so bloody stupid.

    If a party does break laws, and I'd say the AfD does so plenty, then they should be banned. Everything else makes a mockery of the whole state. Not to mention that it's also very dangerous.

    To quote Erich Kästner:

    "The events from 1933 to 1945 should have been combated by 1928 at the latest. Later it was too late. We must not wait until the fight for freedom is called treason. We must not wait until the snowball has turned into an avalanche. You have to crush the rolling snowball. No one can stop the avalanche. It will only stop when it has buried everything underneath it."

    It's high time to fight the AfD with the necessary vigor now! And that requires all parties to stand together. But of course the fucking conservatives again play right into the hand of the Facists.

  • Well, who actually does do that? The US a bit, but mostly for their own interest in a few important strategic topics. The rest of the world, including the EU pretty much continues as usual, so why should Switzerland of all countries start antagonising China?

    I mean I'm all for not involving our self so much with China, but if this happens it has to come as group effort. If only a few countries start, they just cripple their economy while the other countries profit.

  • There has to be some room for freedom of expression, even for people expressing ideas we dislike.

    And there still is plenty of room of public expression of opinions without burning a book representing a religious group. Seriously there are thousands of ways to do so.

    But European countries did learn some lessons and that's why some actions such as calling for religious or other minority groups to be killed or to intimindate such groups with displays of violence isn't allowed in many of them. And burning a religious book in public is such an act of intimidation which serves absolutely no constructive purpose. That's why many European countries don't allow such behaviour.
