The text book industry inflated the cost of everything by making things huge, with mostly meaningless full color pictures everywhere. Go back 100 years and compare the size of a math book to present day. Math hasn't changed a whole lot but the size and weight of the books certainly has.
Depends who you talk to. I know a guy in construction who has had to patch bullet holes in several LEO houses. Also at the sport men's club I'm a member of, the only shooting injury we've had was from a state trooper during a training excercise. You're point is valid, though. NDs are supposed to be minimalized through training and adherence to the 4 gun rules. These guys are morons.
What makes you think these are new hires? The guy who shot Renee Good was an 8 year veteran of ICE. They removed all the guard rails and all of are acting with impunity.
I had a problem with my Bluetooth mouse where it would the device would have a tiny half second lag when moving it after sitting still for about 10 seconds. It took me a lot of on and off troubleshooting before I found out that Windows was putting the Bluetooth driver itself into sleep mode. Don't ask me why Microsoft decided the default of that a Bluetooth driver needed to be put to sleep while plugged.. But I'm sure those milliamps of power really improved performance /s
I see where you are going with your comment.. But the short answer to your question is yes. This is because making addiction illegal doesn't solve the underlying issues. It just drives addicts through the criminal system instead of the medical one. A person going through addiction should have safe and controlled places to use along with a firm pipeline of helpful services to help kick those habits and get back on their feet.
That said, the drugs you are referring to are horrible. But I highly doubt a person deliberately sought them out when their journey through addiction began. Likely they got those mixed in with their original habit and down the rabbit hole they went. Keeping substances and their use illegal will just keep the underground drug trades thriving for the users that still need their fix.
Don't forget, the Republicans are the ones in power right now. If they wanted to, they can change the rules of the senate to pass the budget with a simple majority instead of the current 60 vote requirement. This shut down is all on them.
