  • Honestly looking at a bunch of articles it seems mostly fine, even some facts you’d imagine republicans would disagree with seem to be there and mostly objective. It seems buggy on mobile though half the buttons don’t work, my phone runs hot and I get javascript crashes.

Though it feels written by ai, there is a LOT of text that is ultimately saying the same things over and over, or not really saying anything, greatly inflating the size of articles.

  • Though generally with fruits the added amount of vitamins and all the good stuff that’s concentrated in the skin far outweighs the small amount of pesticides you might consume.

  • There is, but it’s a massive effort. I do try it sometimes and I do have more vegan recipes than before, but I can’t just replace meat in my meat stew with tofu. The more time passes the more vegan recipes I have in my repertoire. I do try to avoid red meat and replace it with chicken or fish though, honestly I care more about the health aspect than the ethical one.

  • I’d do it too if only because it’s heathier, but almost every recipe I know has meat in it that’s pretty hard to replace, it wouldn’t be easy. Maybe if/when meat gets more expensive, I might give it a try.

  • That’s something I’ll never be able to understand. Something having no beginning. Just like I’ll never be able to understand a moment before the big bang, or at the moment of the singularity, where time did could not exist. If there’s no time, how can anything, like the big bang, happen? Unfortunately the singularity is something we know nothing about whatsoever, and probably will never know.

  • But in this case, this “theory” has a precedent. This energy and matter we have now must have come from somewhere. Whatever your personal belief on the matter is, what’s to say that event can’t happen again? If a god created the universe, then surely he can pump some more into it.

  • True, but in the end it’s ffmpeg doing the work for both (at least on a linux system).

  • I don’t know how youtube does it, but decoding a video, say with libavcodec(ffmpeg) without GPU acceleration is pretty demanding. They could do it on their server and send you the stream, but then again they’d save a lot of money not doing that.

But I agree it shouldn’t take so much when nothing is happening, the web has very much become so bloated.

  • At least on linux you have the choice. Somehow however, it seems so many people like to recreate or even worsen the windows experience. I guess Unixporn didn’t make it to lemmy, but half of those did not feel usable. Why would I want one inch wide gaps between everything?

  • As long as there is demand for it, it will continue happening. You can choose to not encourage it, but this desire to be treated reverently by someone of lower status is something deeply engrained in humanity, I doubt it’s ever going away. Pretty much every civilization throughout the ages and around the world has had some form of it.

Being served at a restaurant allows someone who’s not upper class to get a taste of what it could feel like. What’s the difference compared to an office worker indirectly paying the janitor to clean his toilet? They chose the job and are getting paid for it. Maybe it’s degrading, but everyone’s got to start somewhere. Remove those jobs and these people just won’t make money, which is just a worst outcome for everyone involved.

  • You’re paying them though, both sides agreed to play the role. It doesn’t matter what your opinion on the matter is, the customer paid to be treated like royalty and it’s usually something the restaurant wants to offer and so pays their waiters to do.

I’d happily stand up and get my own food, in fact this is why I generally avoid restaurants, but imo ter “roleplay” is included in the price. It’s like those maid cafes in japan. Sure they “are not your servant”, but this is part of the experience, so you could argue that by ruining the experience you paid for, they “robbed” you.

  • I can only assume these always existed, otherwise it would have been a nightmare for everyone.

  • Only since vista, it used to be localized.

  • Lemmy (or most social media) in a nutshell.

  • Well that’s exactly why this is getting so much attention.

  • here it’s more like this:

don’t own a car no store in reach ??? starve

  • Pikachu

  • That’s turmeric, one of the healthiest human foods. If you don’t care about the looks, and it actually works, then why not? I’d be surprised if the actual “approved” chemicals are safer than literally just turmeric.

  • To our collective social woe, disinformation succeeds because so many people care deeply about injustice but do not take the time to study the facts before passing along or acting on disinformation.

Something many of us should learn from, even more appropriate on lemmy.

  • That’s the problem. The interaction you describe is what happens IRL. On lemmy, or most of the “left” internet, it’s the total opposite, with people getting offended at the slightest misstep. Somehow being ignorant in some areas makes you evil or a jerk. People all have a limited amount of time to spend, and not everyone choses to spend that time learning all the politically correct ways to call people.

I also wouldn’t refer to someone as “an illegal immigrant” the same way I wouldn’t refer to them as “that fat man” because you just don’t refer to people that way. But I don’t have any issues talking about fat people, or illegal immigrants, in general. Or if it’s specific, it’ll probably be something like “John got deported last week because he was an illegal immigrant”. Not “get out of here you illegal immigrant”. Not that it sounds much worse than “get out of here you undocumented migrant.”
